Letter: Check for Hunter's milk cartons before sale

Hunter Durham writes:
The store that was there in 1950 use to save me milk cartons so I could take them down to Lawrence and Eller Gilpin and fill the milk cartons up with water.

However, one Wednesday I brought several from home and came back on Saturday and the store smelled awful because they were not outside. We would laugh that the smell never went away. Ms. Scott may want to be sure they are not around some 68 years later. --Hunter

County, metro governments invited to apply for spay/neuter grants

By Sean Southard

Frankfort, KY - Spay/neuter grants for 2019 are now available for county and metropolitan governments in Kentucky.

The Kentucky Animal Control Advisory Board will award up to $2,500, a $500 increase over last year. Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis. No match is required, but preference will be given to applicants that provide the highest percentage of matching dollars.

Governments may partner with non-profit organizations to obtain the best use of resources. Applicants are strongly encouraged to seek out the best price possible for the average anticipated cost per alteration, as grant amounts will be based in part on those costs. Favorable ranking will be given to spay/neuter programs that are mandatory.

Kentucky county and metro governments interested in applying for spay/neuter grants may download the application at GrantApplication (PDF).

Sparksville auction: 'I hope they'll be dreamers'

By Linda Waggener

Who will be the new owners of the Jeff and Henrietta Scott homeplace, studio and apple orchard after Saturday's auction?

"I hope they'll be dreamers, Henrietta says, "I hope they're dreamers who know exactly how these buildings can continue to have life and meaning just like Jeffrey and I did."

Her beloved Jeffrey Scott died three years ago and as hard as she's tried since then, she says she finally had to admit the energy of the studio is gone for her and the physical strength to run the orchard is not there to keep it all at its best. So she chose to auction it and the sale is this coming Saturday, June 15, 2019.
