Lagermann family receives Outstanding Forest Steward Award

The Department of Natural Resources presented the Outstanding Forest Steward Award to William and Chris Lagermann of Red Lick Ranch, LLC. Red Lick Ranch is located in Metcalfe County. The information given on this award was "William and Chris Lagermann have done an excellent job making improvements to their woodlands for wildlife, watershed protection, timer production, recreation, overall health, and aesthetics.

The annual Kentucky Governor's Conference on Energy and the Environment was held at the Lexington Convention Center on October 11-12, 2018. Charles Snavely, Secretary of the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet opened the conference on Thursday.

Kentucky Governor Matthew G. Bevin addressed the conference which addressed environmental issues, the future of Kentucky's energy profile, water and wastewater issues and solutions, and projects to reclaim abandoned mine lands for economic development and the future of regulated energy. Nearly 300 people attended the two-day event. There were various panels and presentations about such topics as Clean Water and Kentucky Abandoned Mine Lands and Economic Development.

Last 2018 Farmers Market on the Square was a good day

Blue Raider swimming teams defeat Life University Saturday

Marietta, GA - The Lindsey Wilson women's swimming team defeats Life University (GA) 686-218 on the road Saturday night, and the men's swimming team defeated Life 496-436.

Both the Lindsey Wilson women's and men's swimming teams will be back in action against Union (KY) and Campbellsville University at home at 1pmCT on November 3 at Holloway Center Natatorium in the Holloway Health & Wellness Center, 399 Williams St., Columbia, KY.

Remembering Donna Marcum Harper

While attending the funeral visitation for Mrs. Donna Marcum Harper, I couldn't help thinking how much this wonderful lady would have loved seeing so many of her daughter's friends, gathering in one place.

Back in the days of my youth, the kids who grew up in Columbia had an entire village of mothers and fathers to look after them. If you were out, running around the streets of Columbia or cruising up and down Jamestown Hill, you could be certain that other families were looking after you, with the same kind of care and affection that you received from your own immediate family.

A Toll Road from Louisville or Lexington to Chattanooga?

If you draw a line from close to the upper Ohio River Bridge, come down through Campbellsville and Columbia, continue on through Tennessee to Chattanooga, it would be a straight line for a Toll Road that would save at least 30 miles from taking I-65 and I-24 between the two cities! Looking at a map it makes a lot of sense; think of the fuel savings alone would more than offset the toll charge.
