Dasse's overtime goal pushes LWC past Goshen

By Christopher Coombs

The No. 9-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team defeated Goshen (Ind.) after an overtime goal from Stephane Dasse during the 97th minute.

After receiving a corner kick, LWC's Renan Ramos sent a low, hard cross into the box. The ball made its way through traffic finding the foot of Dasse who was finally able to poke one past Goshen goalkeeper to secure the 1-0 victory for LWC.

Lindsey Wilson (6-1-1) outshot the Maple Leafs (5-4) 28-4 and held an 11-2 edge in shots on goal. Andrew Revanales led the attack with seven shots, four on goal, as Rainer De Jesus managed four shots with three on goal.

Please continue to pray with us for Ed

2018-09-22 - Columbia - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Continued prayers are requested for my husband, ColumbiaMagazine.com editor Ed Waggener. His doctors tell us they've done everything they can on this 9th day since his cardiac arrest and that now his recovery is in God's hands. Ed is pictured at left enjoying a recent election event, one of his favorite subjects to cover, when ballot positions were drawn for the Adair County General Election November 6, 2018. At right is his favorite fall flower, Ironweed, from one of our recent photo journeys. Thank you to everyone who has been praying, visiting, calling and messaging. - Linda Waggener

LWC women's soccer falls to No. 3 William Carey

By Christopher Coombs

The No. 17-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team fell to No. 3 William Carey (Miss.) on Saturday afternoon at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

William Carey (7-1-0) broke the scoreless draw with just 33 seconds left in the first half. Chrestine Nielson got behind LWC (2-2-1) defenders and registered a shot from six-yards out that Ivanovic deflected away. The rebound found its way to a waiting Holifield who touched it into a wide-open goal.

William Carey's Ana Paula Santos created the first scoring chance of the game for the Crusaders during the 20th minute. After challenging a Blue Raider defender down the end line, Santos played a ball into the penalty box to Silvia Leonessi who fired a shot towards the upper right corner of the goal. LWC goalkeeper Jovana Ivanovic was there to shut down the scoring chance.

Letter: Intersections in Europe

Kathryn Krug writes:
I have been told that in some countries in Europe, they put a few smashed-up cars by the side of the road as you approach the intersection. Seems to cut down on accidents, gets folks to think. --Kathryn Krug
