Local area receives $176,850 in Homeland Security Grants

Nearly $3 Million in homeland security grants awarded throughout Kentucky. Funds will be used to purchase law enforcement, fire and emergency services equipment and bolster law enforcement special operations capabilities throughout the Commonwealth.

Frankfort, KY - After an extensive evaluation and review process, Gov. Matt Bevin and the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security (KOHS) announced today that 50 grant recipients will receive nearly $3 million under Kentucky's 2018 Homeland Security Grant Program to purchase law enforcement, fire and emergency services equipment to counter threats of terrorism in the Commonwealth.

  • $18,900 - City Of Campbellsville for Critical Inrastructure - Power Equipment
  • $2,800 - City of Edmonton for Critical Infrastructure - Physical Security
  • $55,000 - Marion Co. Fiscal Court for Communications - 911
  • $69,150 - Metcalfe Co. Fiscal Court for Communications - Infrastructure
  • $31,000 - City of Somerset for First Responder - Medical

The World Remembers: Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of WWI

Frankfort, KY - Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet's Department for Libraries and Archives (KDLA) is joining archives, museums, schools and organizations from 16 nations in The World Remembers 2018 project. Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of World War I, The World Remembers project pays tribute to the military servicemen and women who died as a result of World War I.

The World Remembers 2018 project displays the names of more than one million soldiers who died from 1918 to 1922 as a result of injuries from the war. Each soldier's name is programmed to appear at the same time across more than 75 locations throughout North America and Europe on websites, electronic devices and public displays. The memorial features soldiers' names from 16 participating nations including nearly 88,000 American soldiers.

Adair Co man arrested on drug charges


NOTE: An arrest is not a finding of guilt. An individual placed under arrest is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.

On September 16th, 2018 at approximately 2:10amCT, Trooper Nick Davis, Tpr. Allen Shirley and Deputy Joey Keith responded to a residence on Liberty Rd investigating a possible drug complaint that had been reported.

While units were inside the residence a blue Ford Ranger, being operated by 31 year old Joseph Baker of Columbia, pulled in the drive and parked behind the residence. As Trooper Davis walked outside to make contact with Baker he located a shotgun in plain view of the pickup truck. While Trooper Davis was searching the vehicle, he observed Baker had attempted to discard a small red flashlight. Deputy Keith opened the flash light and located a bag of suspected methamphetamine.

Baker was placed under arrest and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance 1st degree 1st offense (methamphetamine), tampering with physical evidence, driving on a suspended license 1st offense, operating on a suspended or revoked license, license to be in possession, failure to produce insurance card and failure of owner to maintain required insurance 1st offense. Baker was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail.

Traffic Advisory - I-65 in Hardin County

As Scotty's Contracting nears completion this fall on the I-65 rehabilitation project from Exit 91 to Milepoint 98, several closures are required to accommodate scheduled work, beginning Wednesday night, September 19th and continuing through Friday night, September 21st.

As of 2:30pmCT on September 18, 2018 the boil water advisory for customers from Hwy 55 down to Russell County line on Hwy 92 and all side Roads in between and for customers from 8593 Hwy 55 South to 11099 Hwy 55 South and all side roads in between has been lifted by the Division of Water. This means your water is safe for human consumption. You no longer have to boil your water.

WKU to host 2018 Parent & Family Weekend Sept. 28-29

Western Kentucky University's annual Parent & Family Weekend begins on Friday, Sept. 28, and continues with a full day of activities on Saturday, Sept. 29.

The WKU Family of the Year will be recognized during Saturday night's WKU vs. Marshall football game. Kickoff is set for 6:30pmCT at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium.

Routine traffic stop leads to two drug arrests

Casey County, KY - On September 16th, 2018 at approximately 12:30pmET, Trooper Billy Begley was on routine patrol 5 miles north of Liberty on Junior Murphy Rd when he observed the operator of a red 2007 Pontiac not wearing a seatbelt. Trooper Begley initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver of vehicle, 34 year old Jason Luttrell and a passenger, 33 year old Nicole Dempsey, both of Liberty.

Deputy Weddle and Constable Mondie arrived on scene to assist. Consent to search was given and they located a syringe in Luttrell's front pocket. In the vehicle they located a small bag of suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, and an unidentified prescription pill. Tpr. Begley searched a purse belonging to Dempsey and located a syringe and a glass smoke pipe with residue inside of it.

Trooper Begley placed both subjects under arrest and transported them to the Casey County Detention Center.
