Charles Marshburn: Could Boone drink from KY streams today?

Charles Marshburn writes
Can you imagine what would have happened if Daniel Boone was to drink out of a Kentucky stream today? The history and tales of the frontiersman would have been short stories and very short stories at that! I worry about my horses and donkies drinking from the creek that runs through my farm when we've had enough rain. Who knows what comes down the creek from the west with the water! - Charles Marshburn
Thanks, Charles Marshburn for putting the situation in clearer terms. - EW

Safety in your home was the topic covered by Steve Jenkins

By Linda Waggener

Home Safety was the subject and Adair County native Steve Jenkins was the speaker at the June Chamber of Commerce lunch meeting June 12, 2018.

For over a decade he has worked in the security business in Somerset and he offered helpful information from his experience and studies that have been done.

He said that in the past break-ins happened more at night, but current studies have shown that break-ins occur more in the daytime now when families are outside of the home. He said the month of February is the least likely month for break-ins, while the months of July and August are the highest.

Reader laments that the environment may have been just a fad

About: Scenic Adair County, KY - Beautiful tree tunnel farm entrance

Charles Marshburn writes:
I wonder how many look at that picture and calculate the amount of poison to spray and roadside foliage that they feel should be mowed. Environment has gone by the wayside. It was a fad, correct? - Charles Marshburn
Thanks, Charles Marshburn - It's seems true that it is not fashionable today to be concerned about such matters, especially when discussing the matter in congregations; but, one-on-one discussions finds that there are a surprising number of people who care. Especially those of us get sick at our stomachs when we see what has been done to Johnson School Road. Costly, taxpayer underwritten abuse of the Creator's handiwork. If the money had been spent on paint, not poison wouldn't we all be a lot better off? - EW
