Sandra Jones: Log Church picture evokes beautiful memories

Sandra Jones writes:
Dear Ed & Linda

I remember walking to that log church with my brother & sisters many a summer day for Bible School. Oh, the memories that picture brings back!!!

I always loved the stories Miss Imogene Snider told on her felt board. She made them so exciting! Those really were the good old days. And, sometimes it seems like it was just yesterday.

Sincerely,
- Sandra Jones

Huge strainer on bridge over Crocus Creek on Melson Ridge Road

Wendy Burt writes:
I agree with Mitzi Bault about the danger of bridge "strainers" on Adair County waterways. Another case in point is the pileup of entire trees, limbs, and branches where Melson Ridge Road crosses Crocus Creek in southern Adair County. The pileup is so huge that branches are visible above the bridge deck. As a kayaker, the sight frightens me.

And my engineer father, who designed bridges, immediately would cite the significant risk to the structural integrity of the bridge.

Adair County has many bridges that cross our beautiful waterways. Our state and county highway departments have an important responsibility to maintain them. (See accompanying photo ) - Wendy Burt

James Roberts: Log jam clearance responsibility of bridge owner

James Roberts writes:
I would believe that the bridge log jams would be the responsibility of whether or not the roads that cross them are county or state maintained roads. That should be the parties responsible for clearing of the debris. Maybe this will help. Thanks, James Roberts

Log jam - strainer on Russell Creek pushing against bridge-Whose responsibility?

From a Kayaker: "There is a big log jam at the 206 bridge over Russell Creek in Columbia, KY. It’s pushing on the bridge... City, County or State needs to get it out." - Mitzi Bault

As a City Council Member, all kinds of concerns come up needing to be addressed for the good of all and research happens to find answers. Recently the focus has been on sidewalks and roadsides for our citizens who travel on foot and on bicycles, but this is just one more means of travel so it deserves attention. Which area of our government has the responsibility, personnel and equipment to remove a huge log jam from beneath a major bridge? I'll be asking questions and inviting discussion. For the safety of the highly traveled Liberty Road bridge, and for our travelers on the water, I agree this needs to be a priority. - Linda Waggener

From U.S. Attorney's Office
U.S. Department of Justice, Western District of Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, KY (Mon 23 Apr 2018) - A Franklin, Kentucky, physician was convicted today on 15 counts of illegal distribution of controlled substances by way of prescribing opiate pain medications outside of the course of professional medical practice and without a legitimate medial purpose, announced United States Attorney Russell M. Coleman.

"Kentucky families rely on our doctors to 'do no harm,' however, in this case, a Western Kentucky doctor was no more than a drug dealer in a white coat," stated United States Attorney Russell Coleman. "As much as we respect the medical profession, this is a warning to physicians who purposefully overprescribe pain pills without a legitimate medical purpose - you will lose your medical license and ultimately serve time in federal prison."
