Six drug arrests made by Adair County Sheriffs Office

Six face drug-related charges. Arrests made after long investigation. Sheriff Harrison Moss and all ACSO Deputies, including lead investigator Deputy Justin Cross, involved in operation. Two of those arrested had outstanding bench warrants from Adair County.
Note: Charges/allegations are not a finding of guilt. An individual charged by law enforcement is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.

Adair County Sheriff Harrison Moss reports that on Monday December 4, 2017 after a lengthy investigation, a search warrant was obtained and six arrests were made at 31 L. Hancock Road in Adair County.

COLUMBIA, KY. (Mon 4 Dec 2017) - During the month of November 2017, there were 28 traffic accidents investigated by the State Police working in the Post 15 area in the 11 counties of Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Green, Marion, Metcalfe, Monroe, Russell, Taylor and Washington.

Eddie Hutchison, Adair Co., KY (1939-2017)

He was a member of a large, highly regarded Adair County family, a farmer in his career and member of Egypt Christian Church. His family says that in lieu of flowers, donations of Gideon Bibles or to the church would be appreciated. Casket Bearers are: Larry Hutchison, Zach Hutchison, Taylor Hutchison, Danny Brockman, Mike Curry and Anthony Arnold.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 11amCT at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home with Bro. Hugh Withers and Bro. Paul Patton officiating. Burial will follow in Haven Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 4pmCT on Tuesday, December 5, 2017.

KY Treasurer Ball returns $4.7 million in unclaimed property

A big believer in property rights, Kentucky State Treasurer Allison Ball's office works proactively to return unclaimed property. On one occasion, her staff notified a man that he had about $60,000 to claim. The man, who had recently lost his job, explained that this check had come at the perfect time and would be vital in helping him keep his family afloat during the difficult financial time.

Kentucky State Treasurer Allison Ball has returned over $4,600,000 worth of unclaimed property to Kentuckians through proactive searches in 2017.

"I am a big believer in property rights," Treasurer Ball said in a statement. "One of my favorite things to do in government is to return people's property back to them. I am proud that my office has been able to focus on seeking out people and organizations to return money to."

Saturday evening as the Christmas in Columbia parade was coming to a close, folks were bidding farewell and Merry Christmas to each other and to this one couple, saying congratulations on a big event that had just happened. Julie Brockman shared, "John called me this morning and said, 'hey, honey I bought a piece of property.'"

And, indeed he had.

At the Saturday, December 2, 2017 Bryant Realty auction, John and Julie Brockman of Columbia became the new owners of the Pam Foust/Ralph Hurt estate -- what may possibly be the last undisturbed ground from earliest Columbia.

News from Adair County Elementary School

Adair County Elementary School concluded their 2017 Math Bowl competition on Friday, December 1, 2017. Grade level homerooms competed to get the most blue ribbons awarded in Study Island's math program. Blue ribbons are obtained by mastering a math concept. School-wide the school earned 19, 411 blue ribbons (3rd - 7,737; 4th - 7,564; 5TH - 4,110).

KSP Post 15 is investigating ATV fatality at Pumpjack

Riders of 2014 Kawasaki Teryx were not wearing restraints. Vehicle flips when it collides with a ditch. Tpr. Levi Scott was assisted at the scene by the Adair County Fire and Rescue, EMS, Coroner's office, Sheriff's office, and Columbia and Breeding Fire Department. The investigation is ongoing.

COLUMBIA, KY (4 Dec 2017) - Tpr. Levi Scott is investigating the death of 19-year-old Summer Piercy, of Cave City, KY. Ms. Piercy was pronounced dead by the Adair County Coroner at the scene of an ATV collision that occurred on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at approximately 3:03pmCT, at the Pumpjack off-road recreational park in Adair County.

Mrs. Norma Ann Cissell, 80, Taylor Co., KY (1937-2017)

She professed faith in Christ and was of the Catholic faith. Mrs. Cissell retired from the Fruit of the Loom plant in Campbellsville after many years of dedicated service. She was the wife of William Charles "Charlie" Cissell, who preceded her in death on June 18, 2007. She had a big heart, living her life as a gift to others, and was a close and trusted friend to all that knew her.

Mrs. Mary Esther McVay Russell, Taylor Co., KY (1947-2017)

She was a former administrator of a nursing home until her retirement. She professed faith in Christ and attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. As a young lady, she was very athletic, and in 1965 was named MVP of the World - Softball. Though she was fiercely independent, she had a big heart and loved cooking and caring for her family and friends. She was a native of Biloxi, MS. She was a member of a respected family, the daughter of the late Stewart Roy & Elizabeth (Ewing) McVay and the widow of Clayton Howard Russell. She leaves five direct living descendants.
