Dr. E. Bruce Heilman to speak at CU chapel service 25 Oct 2017

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Dr. E. Bruce Heilman, Campbellsville University 1949 alumnus, and Board of Trustee member as well as chancellor at the University of Richmond, will speak at Campbellsville University's chapel at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, in Ransdell Chapel, located at 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville, Ky.

Everyone is invited to the chapel.

Heilman has served as a member of the Campbellsville University Board of Trustees about 25 years. He has been the driving force for the construction of the E. Bruce Heilman Student Complex with a third building being planned. The Betty Dobbins Heilman House (the president's home at Campbellsville University) is named in his late wife's honor.

FRANKFORT, KY. (Wed 18 Oct 2017) - Attorney General Andy Beshear and his Special Prosecutions Unit today announced the 20-year sentence of a Boone County man in the beating death of seven-week-old Aiden Wainscott in 2015.

Cody Jene Phelps, 25, of Walton, KY entered a plea of guilty in September 2017, in Boone Circuit Court to first-degree manslaughter, Class B felony, and two counts of first-degree criminal abuse, Class C felonies.

Edith Mae Wilkinson, Adair Co., KY native (1938-2017)

Edith was a cook at Danville Country Club for over forty years. She also worked as a cook at Bate Middle School and Pioneer Playhouse; as well as working at Palm Beach. She was a member of Hopeful Gospel Church. She loved her family, crocheting, and sewing. Edith was the Valedictorian of her graduating class at Bate School. She was the widow of Ambers Wilkinson, Sr., who died just 40 days prior. She leaves 14 direct living descendants.

The funeral service will be held at 12pmCT/1pmET, on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Gethsemane Baptist Church, 123 Quisenberry Avenue, Danville, KY, with Rev. Casey M. Curtis officiating. Burial will follow in Hilldale Cemetery. The family will receive friends 10am-12pmNoonCT/11am-1pmET, on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Danville.

Leftwich place fuzzy photo sent me into a world of memories


Walter and Addie weren't all that religious, but they must have taken Genesis 1:28 seriously -- "And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth..." and, lo they did meet up nearby at Cave Ridge at her father's store, courted, married and went forth and were fruitful -- nine children fruitful.

Mom didn't leave much behind for she was one to give something to everyone she passed, especially to family. Going through old photos she left in her collection brought a favorite to the fore: The Walter and Addie Turner Leftwich place, her childhood home, my every-Sunday-dinner-cousin-meeting-place for the first decade or so of life.

Vivian Hochstrasser, Casey Co., KY (1945-2017)

Vivian was a retired Nurse's Aid and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Liberty, KY. She enjoyed attending the Senior Citizens Center and going to auctions, yard sales, and flea markets. She the daughter of the late Chester & Wanda Ellsworth. She was the widow of Norman Hochstrasser. She leaves 22 direct living descendants.

LOUISVILLE, KY (Wed 17 Oct 2017) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) reminds motorists that a portion of Interstate 65 North will be closed this weekend in Jefferson County. This interstate shut-down is the second of two weekend closures, one in each direction, to accommodate safety improvements and other roadway maintenance.

CHS football team crushes Bethlehem

Campbellsville High School football team crushed Bethlehem on Friday, Oct. 13. Final score was 50-14.

CHS will travel to Caverna on Friday, October 20. Game time is 6:30pm/7:30pmET. Dale Estes is the CHS head football coach. Assistants are Herb Wiseman, Tyler Hardy, Robbie Gribbins, Bronson Gowdy, Aaron Webb and Will Griffin.

Lisa Mann, Russell Springs, KY, appointed to KY Housing Board

FRANKFORT, KY. (17 Oct 2017) – Gov. Matt Bevin today made the following appointments to Kentucky Boards and Commissions: Lisa Mann, Joanna Shake Tammy Weidinger, and Lisa Mann have been appointed to the Kentucky Housing Corporation Board of Directors:
- Lisa Mann, of Russell Springs, is executive director for Lake Cumberland Housing Agency, Inc. She will represent the interests of the homeless and serve for a term expiring October 30, 2020.
- Joanna Shake, of Owensboro, is community and economic development director for the Green River Area Development District. She will represent the interests of local government and serve for a term expiring October 30, 2020.
- Tammy Weidinger, of Fort Thomas, is president/CEO of Brighton Center, Inc. She will represent the interests of nonprofit housing organizations and serve for a term expiring October 30, 2020
The Kentucky Housing Corporation, the state housing finance agency, was created by the General Assembly to provide affordable housing opportunities. As a self-supporting, public corporation, Kentucky Housing offers lower-than-market rate home mortgages, housing production financing, homeownership education/counseling, rental assistance, housing rehabilitation and supportive housing programs for special needs populations.

LEXINGTON, KY - (Tue 17 Oct 20170) - United States Attorney Russell M. Coleman today announced the guilty verdict, in United States District Court, of a Mexican National, on charges of threatening to murder an Assistant United States Attorney and solicitation to murder an officer of the United States.

"The rule of law requires public servants of character to enforce that law," stated United States Attorney Russell Coleman. "I am grateful to the men and women of the jury in Lexington, who through today's verdict reinforced that any serious threat to the safety and security of our prosecutors puts our entire community at risk and will not be permitted in our commonwealth ."

Columbia Police make arrest; allege large marijuana grow

Arrest made on Hadley Church Road, a short, deadend road off KY 704 approximately 8 miles south of intersection of KY 704 and Fairplay Road, Columbia, in Adair County Magisterial District 3. CPD Ofc Josh Brockman is continuing the investigation and was assisted by Chief Jason Cross, Sgt Gary Roy, Ofc Jamie Cole, Russell County Sheriff's K-9 deputy Ethan Pike, and Adair County Emergency management.
Note: Charges/allegations are not a finding of guilt. An individual charged by law enforcement is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.

Collection this year will again be at Wheet Fellowship Hall, 1200 Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY. The goal this year is 4,000 boxes for the Columbia Drive. This year, a donation of $9 per box is required for shipping and other project costs. Also this year, candy and toothpaste can no longer be included in boxes
