Robert C. Cummings: Comments on the bubble car

Robert C Cumming writes:
The car looks to be an Isetta BMW 300 built in Germany between 1956-62. These micro "bubble" cars were originally designed and manufactured in the early fifties by Renzo Rivolta in Italy and built under license in many countries. BMW purchased the rights to the car in the mid-fifties and completely re-designed the auto with many improvements including their larger single cylinder for stroke motorcycle engine. The final stretched Model 600 version featured 2 row seating and larger sliding windows. Unfortunately by 1962 economy car buyers wanted larger autos and competition from Volkswagen Beetle and Renault Dauphine and Citroen 2CV sales ended BMW Isetta production. --Robert C Cumming
