LOUISVILLE, KY (Wed 21 Jun 2017) - United States Attorney John E. Kuhn, Jr., announced the guilty plea of a Louisville felon, to possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine and to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, in United States District Court before District Judge David J. Hale.

Columbia PD investigates altercation stabbing incident

20 year old woman stabbed in back, suffers laceratin to face. Treated on scene and then transported to TJ Health/Columbia, and later taken to UL Hospital in Louisville, KY. Officers have identified perpetrator. Officer John Dial, assisted by Sgt Tracy McCarol are continuing investigation.
Note: Charges/allegations are not a finding of guilt. An individual charged by law enforcement is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.

On Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at 8:26pmCT, Columbia Police Officers John Dial and Sgt Tracy McCarol were dispatched to the 500 block of Burkesville Street to a reported fight in progress.

Upon officers arrival it was found that during the altercation a knife had been produced and a female had been stabbed.

Herbert Bay Mattingly, Jr., Glasgow, KY/Lebanon, KY native (1950-2017)

He attended Washington County High School and was a 1968 graduate of Ft. Knox High School where he lettered in tennis. He received a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Eastern KY University in 1972 and began service with the U.S. Army shortly afterward, serving during the Vietnam War Era. He served active duty primarily at Aberdeen Proving Ground (Edgewood Arsenal) in Maryland, and also at Rocky Mountain Arsenal in Colorado and Stanley R. Mickelson Safeguard Complex in North Dakota. After military service, Herb joined Environmental Consultants, Inc. in Clarksville, IN as an analytical chemist. He retired after 28 years of work there. Herb was a fan of major league baseball beginning at an early age. He was an avid scale model hobbyist, and was active in several collector car clubs. Survivors include four siblings: Edward A. Mattingly of Houston, TX; Ann M. Bertrand and Mary M. Elliott (Tommy), both of Glasgow, KY; Sue M. Smith (Jamie) of Columbia, KY; and Charles C. Mattingly (Beth) of Madison, AL clubs.

NAFSA Conference to be held at Campbellsville University

Columbia Police Chief Jason Cross laid out steps Adair County will need to make to rid the community of the scourge of meth and crack cocaine here and prevent widespread use of heroin here, in the fourth community Drug Forum, this one at Living by Faith Church on Tuesday evening, June 20, 2017.

He moderated the meeting, attended by approximately 50 people, including other Columbia Police Officers, Sheriff Harrison Moss, two Columbia City Council members, former substance abusers who are now clean because of tough love, drug court, rehabilitation centers and faith; Pastor Bobby Withers and members of his church and the Gradyville area; and Dr. Pam Stephens, Superintended of Adair County Schools.
