FRANKFORT, KY (16 Jun 2017) - Beginning this fall, students enrolled in an automotive or diesel technology program with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) can apply to gain paid, hands-on experience with local Department of Highways maintenance garages through the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's (KYTC) new Transportation Mechanic Apprenticeship Program (TMAP).

Fallen Tree creates strainer above Russell Creek Bridge

2017-06-17 - Upstream Russell Creek Bridge on Liberty Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com photo(c).
A large tree has fallen across Russell Creek and is creating a strainer on the upstream face of the Fairground Street/Liberty Road/KY 206 Bridge in Columbia, KY. Already an alert for Kayakers, Canoeist and Boaters, it likely will require a state highway maintenance crew or contractors to remove. In almost all debris build ups like this one, the bridge piers themselves prevent stainer removal by natural means. It raises the question: Would it be cost effective to re-design or replace the bridge??? It is a regularly recurring maintenance problem. - EW. Photo Thu 15 Jun 2017.
