ACHS Boys JVs win 20th District Championship

By Amy Keys ACHS JV team won 20th District Championship today, Saturday, February 11, 2017, at ACHS. They defeated Taylor County, 80-43, in the first game and defeated Marion County in the Championship game 45-41. In the accompanying picture are: Brett Scholl, Devin Richardson, Baylor Giles, Cameron Grant, Blane Frazier, Byron Corbin, Hunter Cundiff, Brian Miller, Brady Spires. Coach is Daniel Hedges.

Lena Mae Voils, 93, Russell Co./Adair Native (1923-2017)

She was a homemaker and a member of French Valley United Methodist Church. She was the daughter of the late Lucian & Lillie Grider Womack, and the widow of Leland Voils. She leaves 24 direct living descendants.

Lena Mae Voils, 93, of Russell Springs, died Friday, February 10, 2017 at the Greenview Regional Hospital in Bowling Green.

Funeral service for Lena Mae Voils will be at 11amCT, Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 N Main Street, Russell Springs, KY, with Bro. David Blair, Bro. Alan Voils and Bro. Charles Edwards officiating. Visitation will be 5pm-8pmCT, Tuesday, February 14, 2017, and after 8amCT, Wednesday. Interment will be in the Russell Springs City Cemetery. Pallbearers: Dale Selby, Jacky Pyles, Jimmy Pyles, Doyle Warriner, Boyd Warriner, Alan Voils, Dan Voils, and Mark Womack

COLUMBIA, KY - Lindsey Wilson College held its 20th Scholars Day on Saturday, February 4. The Begley Scholars program, named after LWC's 6th President John B. Begley, was launched in 1997 and is to this day the most prestigious scholarship awarded by the college. The three incoming freshmen that receive the scholarship are granted full tuition, room and board for their four years at Lindsey Wilson College. Trips to Hemingway's "Great American Cities", research projects and a multitude of other activities also encompass the Begley Scholar experience.

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - Bishop Marvin Frank Thomas Sr., who is the 62nd bishop of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church of Cincinnati, Ohio, will be speaking at 9amCT/10amET, Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at chapel in Ransdell Chapel, 401 N Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville, KY

The chapel service is open to the public.

Thomas serves as the presiding bishop of the Second Episcopal District of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, which includes the Kentucky and Ohio Central Indiana regions.

Attorney convicted of defrauding Laurel Co. Construction firm

The evidence at trial established that from 2008 until at least 2011, a company called "Waste Not Technologies," which also went by the name 'Global Green Holdings,' made false promises to the city of Manchester and several would-be contractors who wanted to work on building a green recycling center that would turn municipal waste into useful products like railroad ties and insulation. . . the chief executive officer of Global Green Holdings, promised the project would create 1,400 jobs and bring in millions in revenue. FRANKFORT, KY (Fri 10 Feb 2017) -Daniel R. Goodwin, an attorney from McLean, Virginia, has been convicted of defrauding a Laurel County construction company, in connection with a purported project to build a "green recycling center" in Manchester, Ky. The company, Elza Construction, LLC, lost $1.32 million upfront and incurred several million dollars more in excavation and site preparation costs, but nothing was ever built at the site.

Justice Dept. prosecuting alleged ID theft in Hardin Co., KY

Hardin County, Kentucky, resident and others charged with possessing and using multiple counterfeit credit cards and possessing the equipment to make the fraudulent cards. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney H. Joseph Pinto III, and is being investigated by the United States Secret Service with assistance from the Elizabethtown and Radcliff Police Departments.
Note: - The indictment of a person by a Grand Jury is an accusation only and that person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty

More than 90 high school seniors and their family members -- who were from throughout Kentucky and the region -- came to LWC's A.P. White Campus Saturday for the annual Scholars Day. Among these 90 students, Casey County resident Emily Shoemaker of Liberty, KY, also competed for the scholarship.
