The Adair County School District's focus on college and career readiness and technical training is widely known, and rightly so, but the emphasis has not come at the expense of arts and humanities instruction, as has been the case at other schools across the country. For confirmation, one only needs to look at Ginna Marsh and the hard work her choir students are putting in every single day.

By Travis Smith
LWC Assistant Director of Public Relations and Media Coordinator

For the second year in a row, Lindsey Wilson College and the city of Columbia held a coming of age ceremony for international students studying abroad at LWC on Friday, January 27. Traditionally, the Coming of Age ceremony -- also known as Seijin no Hi -- is held throughout city halls in Japan every January. The ceremony, which dates to the 8th century, celebrates when a person in Japan reaches legal adulthood, which is the age of 20. Four LWC students from Japan were recognized during the ceremony Friday at Columbia City Hall.

More than 40 LWC classmates, faculty and staff and area residents gathered in a city hall meeting room as Mayor of Columbia Curtis Hardwick told the four Japanese students about the responsibilities and challenges of adulthood, just as a Japanese mayor would do.

Frankfort, KY - Football fans across the country will celebrate America's most-watched sporting event, Super Bowl LI, on Sunday, Feb. 5.

For many, the Super Bowl celebration will include drinking alcohol. That's the reason the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety (KOHS) and law enforcement officials are teaming with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for a special Fans Don't Let Fans Drive Drunk reminder to urge all football fans to call the right play by passing the keys to a sober driver before the drinking begins.

Ohio reader discovers Columbia author Albert Wyckoff's books

Related: Adair County authors: Albert C. Wyckoff, by Mike Watson, contains a comprehensive list of the books written by Rev. Albert Capwell Wyckoff

Scott Brenneman writes:
I found a couple of Mercer Boy's books in my Dad’s book collection. I do not know how he came about these, but I have really enjoyed them and have added a couple of the Mystery Hunters books to my collection. These books are well written and I really feel I am there inside the stories. Wish authors today would put out suitable books like these for youth. Sincerely, Scott Brenneman, Mount Vernon OH
Thanks, Scott, for writing. Adair County is proud of having been the home of Rev. Wyckoff for many years. Though he did not write any of the Mercer Boys works in Columbia, he continue his authorship here while pastor of the Columbia Presbyterian Church, and the Union Presbyterian Church (in a sanctuary now the home of Living by Faith Church). He and his wife are buried in the Columbia Cemetery.
