"We want to have it open for breakfast, serving donuts and coffee. Students will run the cafe under the supervision of adults and anyone can drop by on their way to work and have a donut and a cup of coffee." He continued, "We want it to look old school." Adopt-a-Highway Program accepting entries for 2016 Art Contest Deadline for entries is Oct. 31 By Ryan Watts Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is asking the Commonwealth's art teachers and students to get a jump on this year's Adopt-a-Highway Art Contest and submit their entries before the deadline on Oct. 31. The Adopt-a-Highway Program's Art Contest is held annually to increase public awareness about the damaging effects of litter, change attitudes and behaviors about littering and educate Kentuckians about the Adopt-a-Highway program. The deadline was extended this year to ensure teachers and students have adequate time to produce and submit pieces. Entries must be postmarked on or before Oct. 31 to be considered for this year's contest. LWC Women's Soccer over Cumberlands, 1-0 By Matt Wurzburger Williamsburg, KY - The No. 6-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team defeated Cumberlands (KY), 1-0, on the road Friday night. Emelie Liljered scored the match's lone goal in the 21st minute. Savanah Simpson played a ball into the 18-yard box, which Liljered headed in. The Blue Raiders (6-3, 3-0 Mid-South Conference) outshot the Patriots (7-6, 1-2 MSC) 17-9, including an 8-5 edge in shots on goal. Fall forest fire hazard season now underway Seasonal restrictions on outdoor burning are back in effect. Division Director Bill Steele (Yes, before you ask, he's Columbia's Bill Steele) said hardwood leaf litter is the most common source of combustible material in Kentucky forests: "Unlike western fires that burn on the ground and in the canopy, Kentucky's fires usually stay on the forest floor and burn only what is already down, beginning in October, fresh new dead leaf litter begins to fall in the forest," he said. FRANKFORT, KY. (30 Sep 2016) - The Kentucky Division of Forestry (KDF) is again preparing for an active wildfire season. Each year, nearly 1,500 wildfires occur in the state of Kentucky based on the 10-year average. Wildfires in Kentucky threaten and cause damage to homes, private property, trees and landscapes.
