Kentucky Color - The Enemy of Our Enemy is Our Friend

Why it is especially important to protect non-poisonous snakes
Essay complete on this page. Click on headline for item with - WARNING to snake-willied fraidy cats - photo of snake-devouring-snake. (And it happened rotchere in Adair County)

By Billy Joe Fudge

Researchers at Great Wooded South University have been warning the public for decades about the dangerous folly of senselessly slaughtering non-poisonous snakes. GWSU concerns are tied to the threats caused by the upsetting of the balance of nature when it comes to lowering the populations of non-poisonous snakes which are natural predators of poisonous snakes.

This photo taken on Old Highway 61 just South of Downtown Breeding is proof that the old Chinese proverb, "the enemy of our enemy is our friend" is true, at least in this case.

Joe Wilson who took the accompanying picture, reported that soon after the Black Snake had squeezed the life out of the Copperhead, he set about the process of recycling (head first) the poisonous fella. Bon appetit! - Billy Joe Fudge
