Second Annual ACHS Graduation Walk-thru another huge success

Click on headline for story with photo(s)

By Shamarie Harper

The second annual Graduation Walk-thru was another HUGE success! The Graduates and younger students alike enjoy the event. I saw grown boys and girls crying today at the outpouring of love from the children.

It is truly a sight to see and experience. It is a way to remember where the graduates have been and how far they have come and a wonderful example for the younger students seeing the older children they look up to completing a goal. Another great day at the Adair County Schools. - Shamarie Harper is Media Coordinator for the Adair County School District

Rita Smith: Help on ID for the yellow flowers in farmers' fields

Rita Smith writes:
Good morning Ed, I am hoping that you or someone may help me find out what are the flowers , that I am seeing in farmers fields. Is it some type of field cover . I would really love to know. Do you suppose Billy Fudge would know? Thank you. Sincerely --Rita Smith
Rita - Thanks. I believe Billy Fudge would know, too. Adair County Agent Nick Roy has identified the flower in linked photo are "Field Buttercups." They are a nusisance in pastures because they have no nutrient value and crowd out desirable pasture crops. Thanks for asking - it's a reminder that we needing to post some links County Agent Roy gave to some identifcation guides he uses and recommends.

As Decoration Day Approaches: Fighting for North or South?

Notes on the holiday and the Old Lapsley Cemetery in Russell County
Memorial Day, the modern day version of Decoration Day, is Monday, May 30, 2016

By Tine S. Reynolds

As Decoration Day Approaches: Fighting for North or South?: Elizabeth and Sarah Wolford ("crossing the river of death and resting on the shores") were sisters of Albert P. Wolford who died in "the service of his country" (on his gravestone) in the Civil War. (Old Lapsley Cemetery) This is amazing that which part of the country (North or South?) is not mentioned on the monument.

Juliza Lapsley Wolford, their mother, lived until 1900 at which time she was 87 years old. Her brother John Lane Lapsley lived until 1906; he also was 87 years old at the time of his death.
