Why can't Way Above Average Child get into pre-School??? Anonymous writes: Good Morning, I am not sure if the Adair County Early Childhood Council has anything to do with pre school. However, we took our 3 year old to a Dial 4 test screening, to see if he was eligible for pre school. (NOT JUDGED ON OUR INCOME BY THE WAY, JUST HIS RESULTS) The results were way above average, which led to the denial of him attending school 2 days a week. I for one do not understand why/how a child can score above average and be denied access to School. I believe with this case, they would ACCEPT the child in all hopes to continue his above average skills throughout his school years. I may be completely wrong in my way of thinking, but doesn't the NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND refer to above average children as well?! Thank you, Sincerely, Concerned Mom -AnonymousContact information for 'Anonymous' - is on file at CM. We vouch for this Future President of the United States' Way Above Averagedness. - EW 2015-08-09 10:44:44 | Comments | Printable version

Bob Barnes identifies the neighborhood crossing Comments re photo 61594 Scenic Adair Co KY Neighborhood Crossroads Bob Barnes writes: It looks like the crest of Montgomery Street. --Bob barnesThanks Bob Barnes: It is, in fact the crossing of Montgomery Street and Guthrie Street. The photo was taken from Woody Avenue. It was one of those magic places in Columbia, where one wonders just how deep those delightful miniature forests - sometimes five or six trees deep - are; as one wonders, looking east on Merchant Street, how many miles deep the Trabue-Russell Woods are? And how high the "mountain" by the Christian Church park, is? Memories of the wonderful families who were in the Montgomery/Guthrie Street Crossing area are still welcome. - EW 2015-08-09 08:29:11 | Comments | Printable version

Was Nancy, KY, named for Nancy, France? Charles Marshburn writes: Was this unincorporated location named for Nancy, France? There are so many Kentucky cities named after European cities and other locations across "the pond". I am thinking those early settlers were homesick for the towns they had left for the new world. Charles M.A very good question Mr. Marshburn, but well above the ken of the editor of the hour at CM. Perhaps, before more knowledgeable staff takes later shifts, someone out there will enlighten you, and me. - EW 2015-08-09 06:17:15 | Comments | Printable version
