Rep. Carney expected at Martin Luther King sign unveiling

Unveiling will be at 10amCT, Mayor Hardwick says.

Columbia Mayor Curtis Hardwick is expecting Rep. John Bam Carney (Ky 51 - Taylor and Adair Counties) to be present at a sign unveiling at 10amCT, to designate a stretch of Burkesville Street to the Louie B Nunn Cumberland Parkway at Exit 47, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King.

Because parking is at a premium at the unveiling site, in front of Blake Hatcher's garden center, the event will be attended mostly by Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials from District 8, local civil rights leaders, and members of City Council and Fiscal Court, and the Columbia/Adair Human Rights Commission, Mayor Hardwick said.

Rep. Carney guided the bill through the Kentucky General Assembly to have the roadway designation made official. Mayor Hardwick said that the honor for MLK will not require any postal address changes. They will remain the same, just as Greensburg Road residents still have the same mailing addresses after the highway was named for Dakota Meyer.

Supt. Reed signs agreement for ACPC geo-thermal woe fix

Infrastructure woe recognized, confronted, negotiated, and finally solved, with Expected start of corrective re-construction: 14 Aug 2015. Agreement leaves district virtually cash neutral on ordeal. Big cost: Distraction to fix a problem which contractors should never have let happen in the first place, Mr. Reed says.

By Ed Waggener

The Adair County School District Board is much closer to completion of a construction remediation problem with the geo-thermal installation, at Adair County Primary Center, with the completion of a negotiated settlement, which, Superintendent Alan W. Reed says, will leave the district virtually cash neutral on the ordeal, but costly in terms of time consumed when the district is advancing so much on all other fronts.

That problem, the diversion of time need for progress to correct an infrastructure failure, is a Red Alert to all those responsible for the community's current infrastructure projects, he says, adding, "It pays to get it right the first time."

Alice Smith Robinson writes:
Hi Ed. I remember when Mrs. Irene Nell and her husband Wille Nell had Nell's Variety store there in Columbia. My sisters and I always loved to go in and just look around and shop a little, if we had any money. Mrs Nell was always such a pretty, sweet, kind, nice lady. She was always so nice to us. I want to say Happy 100th Birthday to her. She has been so Blessed to still be able to drive her car from Frankfort to visit her friends there in Columbia and back to Frankfort.
