One of the most fascinating of the murals in Cumberland County, KY, is the one on the west face of the KY 90 Tire Shop in Marrowbone, Cumberland County, KY, a very active business in 2015. The scene is out of the 1950s it would seem, with some classic scenes, from the kids and their Radio Flyer red wagon, to to GMC pickup, the Chevrolet in the service bay, to the 1951 (?) Ford Coupe at the Sinclair gas pump with the green dinosaur logo. Would love to know more about the art, and for sure, who the artist(s) are. (Though our first guess is probably right). Update, 12 Mar 2014 Mary Ann Burns, Columbia, KY, has identified the muralists as Charlotte Cash & Patricia Ritter. - EW

LWC Women's Basketball slips to 21st in national rankings

Blue Raiders are one of four Mid-South Conference teams in the top 25

COLUMBIA, KY - The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team dropped three spots to No. 21 in the final regular-season edition of the NAIA Division I Women's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, as released by the national office on Wednesday, March 11, 2015.

The Blue Raiders (21-9) earned 87 voting points total.

Campbellsville (KY) is ranked No. 4 with 224 total voting points.

Scholars speak at Chamber Meeting

The Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce met at its regular monthly meeting where we heard from the Adair County High School Governor's Scholars and Roger's Scholar. In ACHS principal Troy Young's introduction of the students, he said that they were the brightest and best. This was certainly evident in the informative, interesting and entertaining remarks the students made in speaking about their experiences last summer. Each student expressed that if any student was considering applying for the programs, they should definitely do so... that it is a life changing experience.

The Chamber also heard from Mr. Dan Warbel, St. Jude's Hospital, about the importance of St. Jude's for children's cancer research and treatment. WAIN radio station will be participating with other country music radio stations in April for the St. Jude's Telethon.

Laura Stephenson recognized as an NAIA All-American

LWC Swimmer honored for her performance in the 200-yard butterfly

COLUMBIA, KY - Lindsey Wilson women's swimmer Laura Stephenson became the program's first-ever NAIA All-American, as announced by the national office on Monday, March 9, 2015.

All-American honors were awarded to the top-three finishers in each event and the swimmers of the top-three finishing relay teams.

Stephenson earned All-American honors after finishing in third place in the 200-yard butterfly event at the NAIA National Championships. Stephenson clocked in at two minutes, 6.03 seconds.

Stephenson's performance marked the top individual finish at NAIA Nationals in the program's five-year history.

Eight LWC Wrestling student-athletes earn All-American honors

Cozart leads Lindsey Wilson's group of honorees

COLUMBIA, KY - The Lindsey Wilson wrestling team had eight members selected as NAIA All-Americans, as released by the national office on Monday, March 9, 2015.

The top eight wrestlers in each weight class earned NAIA All-American recognition.

Joe Cozart, Michael Pixley, Keaton Thomas, Daniel Leonard, James Flint, Jake Maupin, Isaac Thomas and Chico Adams represent the Blue Raiders' NAIA All-American selections.

As a team, the Blue Raiders finished third in the standings with 104.5 points total, the highest finish in the program's history.

Marie H. Loy, 79, Columbia, KY (1935-2015)

She was a native of Adair County, KY, and a resident of the county at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Willie and Gladys Corbin Harmon and the widow of Rev. Austin Loy. She leaves nine direct living descendants. She attended Solid Rock Church.

Lindsey Wilson Women's Swimming ranked No. 10

Blue Raiders placed 10th at the NAIA National Championships

COLUMBIA, KY - The Lindsey Wilson women's swimming team closed out its season as the No. 10-ranked team per the NAIA Women's Swimming & Diving Coaches' Postseason Poll, as announced by the national office on Tuesday, March 10, 2015.

Lindsey Wilson finished in 10th place at the NAIA National Championships, and Laura Stephenson became the program's first-ever NAIA All-American honoree.

Adair Fiscal Court report Tue 10 March 2015 regular meeting

In the Tue 10 March Fiscal court meeting:
  • Court has new look, with Judge Stephens renovation of the meeting room
  • Treasurer reports has $1,139,266.51 reconciled unencumbered balance
  • Surplus property gets only two bids, for 2001 Chevrolet Truck
  • Court lauds significant turnaround at Green River Animal Shelter
  • Court approves completely new Ambulance Board members; five Adair County/Colmbia Human Rights Commission Members
  • Court tables approves Road Report, awaits totals for contractors hired to help in snow storm, and approves preparation for possible reimbursement for contractors needed to fix storm damage
  • County makes profit on leased 2014 Mack Trucks.
  • Herbicide spraying equipment approved in item not on agenda
  • Rural Secondary Roads approved with list of work to be done by state. Specifics of Flex Money not yet available as exact amount of funds not yet determined
  • Court votes to buy surplus mower from state
  • Sheriff Moss gives itemized of tax receipts
  • Court tables plan to go to four-day work week for road department

The Adair County Fiscal Court met for the first time in the newly renovated basement of he Adair Annex building, with Judge Michael Stephens presiding.

Work on the project was done at the direction of Judge Stephens, who said that there was no expense to the county in the work.
