Six fatalities recorded in Post 15 area in January 2015

Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY

COLUMBIA, KY - During the month of January 2015, there were 19 traffic accidents investigated by the State Police working in the Post 15 area in the 11 counties of Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Green, Marion, Metcalfe, Monroe, Russell, Taylor and Washington.

There were six fatal collisions during the month of January in the Post 15 area:

Adair County Judge Executive Mike Stephens welcomed speakers for and against a local Right-to-Work Law. The court voted unanimously, by voice vote with the Judge casting a vote for the ordinance to approve a first reading of an ordinance in favor of the action. Campbellsville man arrested on meth charges

From Campbellsville 911

On Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at approximately 3:45pmET, the Campbellsville Police Department executed a search warrant at 510 North Jackson Street, Campbellsville, KY. 28 year old Andrew Edwards was subsequently arrested and charged with; Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree, Possession of Paraphernalia.

Edwards was served with 5 outstanding warrants for his arrest and was additionally charged with a Taylor County Circuit Court Indictment warrant for Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st degree (Heroin).

Officer Roy Rogers of the Campbellsville Police Department investigated. Agencies involved were Campbellsville Police Department and the Kentucky State Police DESI West.

Black ice a factor in injury accident on East KY 80

COLUMBIA, KY - Tpr. Justin Phillips is investigating a collision that occurred today, Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at approximately 8:22amCT, 10 miles east of Columbia on KY 80. 21-year-old Bethany A. Bray, of Campbellsville, was operating a 2002 Dodge, traveling west on KY 80, when she lost control of her vehicle after driving through black ice. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a rock wall. Bray was seat-belted and was treated and released at Russell County Hospital. A passenger, 1-year-old Braxton Morgan, was also treated and released and was in a child restraint device.

KSP Troopers involved in Louisville shooting

Kentucky State Police Post 4, Elizabethtown

LOUISVILLE, KY - Kentucky State Police Post 4 in Elizabethtown is investigating a Trooper involved shooting that occurred in St. Matthews last night.

On February 9, 2015 at 11:12pmET, KSP Post 12 (Frankfort) Troopers Eddie Whitworth and Brian Miller were attempting to serve criminal arrest warrants at an apartment complex located at 850 Washburn Ave. The Shelby Co. Sheriff's Office had secured the warrants earlier in the day for Cleveland Askew Jr. (35) of Simpsonville, Ky. The warrants for Wanton Endangerment 1st, Terroristic Threatening 3rd, and Animal Cruelty 2nd were the result of Mr. Askew's alleged actions earlier in the day in Shelby County.

Trooper Whitworth and Trooper Miller knocked on the door of the apartment and Mr. Askew opened the door and brandished a firearm. Tpr. Whitworth fired three shots striking Mr. Askew. The suspect was then taken by ambulance to the University Of Louisville Hospital where he is listed in Serious Condition in ICU.

The incident is still under investigation. KSP was assisted on the scene by the St. Mathews Police Department.

The 2015 Adair County Career and Technical Showcase could not have been a bigger success. There were over 225 people in attendance from all walks of life. The evening started with remarks from student leader Sarah Bault, who ran the evenings opening and overview of programs. Mr. Young, Adair County High School Principal, provided a heartfelt welcome and the pride for his school and staff was unmistakable.

Mayoral election ballots will be examined Fri, 13 Feb 2015

Contested City of Columbia Mayoral Case set for trial 9amCT, Thursday, February 26, 2015, in the Adair Judicial Center, 201 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, by order of Circuit Judge Judy Vance at hearing this morning, Tue 10 Feb 2015.

County Clerk Lisa Greer said that her office will open up the voting machines used in the November 4, 2014 City of Columbia Mayoral election on Friday, February 13, 2015, on orders of Circuit Judge Judy Vance.

The ballots will be examined under the supervision of the Adair County Board of Elections, which includes ex officio members the County Court Clerk (Greer), Sheriff Harrison Moss, Ben Loy (D) and Billy Curry (R). She said that County Attorney Jennifer Hutchison Corbin will be present, too, as well as attorneys and individuals in the case will also be present to monitor the proceedings.

Judge Vance has set a trial date in the case for 9amCT, Thursday, February 26, 2015, in the Adair Judicial Center, 201 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. The trial is expected to determine whether a new election for Mayor of Columbia will be ordered or not.

Clerk Greer said that this examination should allow the voting machines to be released for for preparation for the Tuesday, May 26, 2015 general election.

Several more affidavits have been filed in the case of Ben Arnold, et al vs. Adair County Board of Elections, et al, according to information at the Adair County Clerks office this Tuesday morning, 10 Feb 2015, at 8:03amCT.

The hearing is scheduled in the 9amCT time frame, and, though listed last, it will be heard at as determined by Adair Circuit Judge Judy Vance. The court event will be held at Adair County Judicial Center, 201 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY.

At least 13 of the new affidavits were filed on behalf of Ben Arnold, et al.

KY Treasurer Hollenbach proposes Kentucky Retirement Account

Plan has been endorsed by the AARP - American Association of Retired Persons

Entitled the KYRA Bill ( pronounced kigh-ruh) which stands for Kentucky Retirement Account, Kentucky Treasurer Todd Hollenbach told reporters in a Capitol rotunda news conference in Frankfort today that the proposed legislation allows the Commonwealth to act as a catalyst to make available a privately run retirement savings plan for all Kentuckians who lack access to a plan at their workplace.

"There are 786-thousand Kentucky workers who could take advantage of the Kentucky Retirement Account Program", the Treasurer stated. "KYRA will provide an opportunity for them to insure they have enough income to support themselves when they retire."
