Mayor Harris clarifies Payroll Tax Officer pay scale

Mayor Mark D. Harris called at 10:36amCT, today, Wednesday, December 24, 2014 to follow up on Marcia Grider's question with this statement:
"Our intention is to use someone on our current staff to handle the duties of the Payroll Tax Officer. But whether we hire someone or have a member of he current staff to do the job, we still have to have a job description and a pay scale for that job. "I personally don't see a need for a new hire. The next Mayor may suggest something different, but as a member of the incoming city council, I think the city will not need a new hire. "We will be taking up an amendment to the ordinance after the new year; my preference will be to bring it up at the first meeting of the New Year." - MARK D. HARRIS, Mayor, City of Columbia, KY.

Wonders why ordinance includes Occupational Tax Officer

Why have a pay scale if no one is to be hired, she asks

Comments re article 72079 City Council meets in brief Special Session Tue 23 Dec 2014

Marcia Grider writes:
Question: If there are no plans to hire an Occupational Tax Officer, why was there a vote on passing an ordinance to adopt a pay scale for the position? Thanks. - Marcia Grider
Thanks, Marcia Grider. An excellent question. And one which should have clarified last night. Charles Grimsley, who voted against the Pay Scale ordinance, said that his understanding is that there will be an amendment to this ordinance in January, when a job description is written, clearly defining what the position would entail, to be in place should the city decide to hire an Occupational Tax Officer. - EW

Jamie Isabelle comment: New mayor election

'It isn't like anything has ever changed around this town in years. Yes, the new tax issue was a big deal with the way it was handled. This is just a small drop in the bucket for things that have been going on for years. - JAMIE ISABELLE

By Jamie Isabelle
Personal commentary

I hope Judge Vance tells Mr. Arnold sorry about your luck on the new election.

If Mr. Arnold was so worried about how this town is, then he would have been on the ballot from the start.
His name would have been in black and white from the get go and no one would have worried about writing it in.

I understand there was a mix up at some of the voting sites, but from what I understand those people could have gone back and redone them.

When the person didn't see his name already listed, like it should have been, then that would have been a red flag from the start if they were determined to vote for him.

It isn't like anything has ever changed around this town in years. Yes, the new tax issue was a big deal with the way it was handled. This is just a small drop in the bucket for things that have been going on for years.

I believe, if he was all so concerned he should have already had decided to try to make a change well before the last minute to file for office.

I do want to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year!! --Jamie Isabelle
