David Hill sends new information of Strand, Talt's barber shop

We had previously labeled the Strand as being in Jamestown; but David Hill says it was on Main Street in Russell Springs, beside Talt Montgomery's Barber Shop. The Mary Agnes was in Jamestown, KY. It was all explained in the the article: Russell Co., KY, historian pinpoints date of Star Theatre photo

David Hill writes:
The picture of the Strand Theater was on Main Street in Russell Springs. The building on the right was Talt Montgomery's barber shop and his wife's Molly Montgomery's beauty shop. The theater in Jamestown was the Mary Agnes owned by Jack Story. - David Hill

Poetry by Robert Stone: Sonnet, not in separated

Not in separated
- a sonnet ending with a comment by Lisa Comperry
The glory of the rainbow is the whole
and not in separated parts we name,
Of colors seen there cannot be a poll
for never two observers see the same.

The power of the sea is in the wave
and not in single drops pushed easily.
Moon waxing or storm tossing stir the rave
but know a calming follows every spree.

The honor of a life is in respect
and not in goodness done for public praise.
Beware dull busyness and sharp neglect,
content to thoughtless walk familiar ways.

Much study brings but one immutable
that happiness is always beautiful.

Happy Tail - The Starvin' Marvins

When the woman called, she said she could no long afford to feed the 'Beagles,' and Peg Schaeffer agreed to take them. They weren't Beagles and they were half starved. But they, and another set one year later from the same address were taken in, and worked their way into Peg's & Keith's hearts. They are permanent fixtures at Sugarfoot, not available for adoption. This is their heart warming story, with two delightful photos one, a real entertainer.
Next previous Peg Schaeffer story: Happy Tail - Mona and Tag

By Peg Schaeffer

In July of 2008 a woman called me asking if I could take in a litter of puppies. She lived in Russell Springs and could no longer afford to feed them. When I asked what breed they were she told me they were Beagles. I have a soft spot for Beagles so I agreed to take them. At the time a friend of mine was in Russell Springs so we made arrangements for him to pick them up. He brought me eight of the skinniest puppies I had ever seen. They were just mere skeletons with skin covering their bones.

Chuck Hinman: IJMA. A Work Of Art

A Work Of Art Chuck describes the cultural shock of going from the elaborate Christmas Eve service at one of Houston's largest churches to the simple children's program in a rural Oklahoma church.

A Work Of Art

The title of this writing suggests something produced by the hands of a skilled artisan with hints of divine inspiration.

Connie and I were transferred to Houston with Phillips Petroleum Company late in my working years. It was 1982.

Editorial Poem: On lack of light at Miss Victoria's interchange

Poetry to the Point
I don't want to lament our plight
While traversing our West exit at night.
Nor am I jealous of Edmonton East
With nary a shadow in the least.

Yea, its understanding that I seek
As to why our lighting is not meet,
While Sixty Eight is beaming bright
Lighting the way of turnings, left and right.
