Peggy Fudge: Let's let FPS get at issues facing us

Whether its the concrete pillars or a really big issue like the budget, Adair County's Future Problem Solving team, might be able to solve them, writer says

Peggy Fudge writes:
Ed, no apologies needed about any topic. You print what people are talking about, which is as it should be. I guess I'm always in a bit of a hurry to get on with business - 'Okay, we'll address that. Now, what about...' We are a typical small town where a twist on the old joke usually applies - our issues are like the weather; 'everybody talks about it but nobody does anything about it'. I still think we ought to try our luck with Adair County's Future Problem Solving team. This will be their town (we hope) before long. Get them involved. Give them a problem, (the pillars?), a budget, significant leeway, and let them have at it. Thanks for listening. --Peggy Fudge

Bird frightener snake keeps carport cleaner

2014-08-23 - E Fortune Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. I almost stepped on the wicked looking snake on neighbor Kenneth Janes' carport. But it was only making a living, scaring off birds. Besides, it's made of rubber. It seems to work, Janes said. The idea is philosophically similar to the one Second Christian Church Trustee Bill Wheat uses to keep birds out of the church's picnic pavillion. Poetry by Billy Joe Fudge: Mid August in our town

Mid August in our town
by Billy Joe Fudge, August 23, 2014)
Mid August in our town
Softly speaks to us by
Uttering not a sound.
Brick solid signs of ol'
And molded trappings of
The not so very old;
A canvas painted sweet
Where shadows of the past
And tomorrow do meet.
Summer's heat is cooled
By stretched out shadows
Of pre-night etchings, blue.
Asphalt and graveled lot
Bring notions of stillness
And life nearing a stop,
While youth of tree-lined street
And the life it implies
Does of the future speak.

Concrete pillars deserve this much attention?

Comments about: What should be done with concrete pillars

Peggy Fudge writes:
All the things that Columbia needs, and the concrete pillars get this much attention? Redirect, people, put your energy where it's needed. - Peggy Fudge
Thanks, and 'pologies if needed: You're right of course. There are much bigger issues. Like you writing those books about Columbia we're all waiting to read. Aattention to details is what some people do best, and it can be the impetus for great things, and we base this, with a huge stretch, on the Lindsey Wilson College Doctrine of The Brass Rail. May be wrong, but there's a good chance that the Farmers Market on the Square Crowd will have a Eureka moment with an idea for the pillars. It might even happen today. - ED
