Last of the former Kentucky Water Patrol employees retires

Tim Catron of Wayne County spent 25 year career patrolling Lake Cumberland, starting with the former Kentucky Water Patrol and completing his career with the Kentucky Fish & Wildlife Department after Kentucky Water Patrol was merged into it

FRANKFORT, KY (KY State News) - The last serving member of the former Kentucky Water Patrol has retired.

Wayne County resident Tim Catron, who retired December 31, started his career with the Kentucky Water Patrol and finished it as a law enforcement captain for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.

We've now heard from Green County School Superintendent Jim Frank and Russell County School District Superintendent Michael Ford. Both the Green County School District and Russell County Schools will be back in session, on regular session, Thursday, January 9, 2014.

We are still waiting to hear from Metcalfe, Cumberland, and Casey Counties, but hope to have news on those systems soon.

15 to Finish: campaign urges students complete

'Time is money when it comes to on-time graduation. Students avoid the cost of extra semesters, incur less debt, and can get in the workforce sooner to begin earning higher incomes.' Council on Postsecondary Education President Bob King

A statewide campaign launched earlier today urges full-time college students to finish college faster by completing a full 15-credit schedule each semester, or 30 credits a year, the standard course load for on-time graduation.

The '15 to Finish" campaign will promote the benefits of completing a full course schedule, which include saving time and money, and getting into the workforce sooner.

Adair County School District will be back in session Jan. 9, 2013

Adair County on regular schedule

Adair County School Superintendent Alan W. Reed annnounced at 2pmCT, today, that there will be school in Adair County School District on Thursday, January 9, 2014.

"David Jones and I have checked all points in the county and feel that the roads are safe for school bus travel," he said.

Taylor Schools on 1 hour delay, open Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014

Taylor County School Superintendent Roger Cook has announced that Taylor County Schools will be open on Thursday morning, January 9, 2014 but on a one-hour delay.

Campbellsville Independent School District has also reported in and will be open on Thursday, operating on regular schedule.

Big Dawg will cover murder trial in Greensburg, KY

The Murder of Wendell Gleason Pyles: Larry Smith makes announcement following change of venue ruling Tuesday in Casey Circuit Court. Trial of David Salyers is being moved from Liberty, KY, to Greensburg, Kentucky for security concerns related to motorcycle club. Smith said Adair and Boyle County had been considered as sites for the trial.

Larry Smith, FM 99.9 the Big Dawg, says that he will have coverage of the trial of David Salyers, charged in the September 12, 2013 murder of Adair Countian Wendell "Gleason" Pyles (1962-2012).

According to Smith, jury selection will begin on Monday, January 13, 2013, in Greensburg, KY and The Big Dawg news will be there.

Nathaniel Echols, 68, of High Pine Street, Campbellsville, KY, was transported to the Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville, KY, after the Campbellsville/Taylor County EMS extracted him from his overturned 2002 Ford F-150 pickup, Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at around 10:28amET. According to the Taylor County Sheriff's Department (TCSO) Echols was traveling South on KY 55 South, New Columbia Road, when he struck a path of black ice, causing him to lose control, strike a guard rail and overturn.

The Taylor County Sheriff's Department found two people dead at 4301 East Finley Ridge Road in northern Taylor County near the Marion County line after answering a call from Roger Warren that Karyn Rae Meeks, 39, had been shot with a crossbow and was bleeding profusely. The call came at approximately 10:50amET, on Tuesday, January 7, 2014. While enroute, a deputy received a call from Roger Warren that the perpetrator, Paul Dewayne Sprowles, had armed himself with a shotgun.

Energy efficiency can reduce home heating costs

Public Service Commission (PSC) offers tips for cutting consumption during bitter cold weather

With a blast of Arctic air covering the state, the Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) says consumers can limit the impact on their home heating bills by taking steps to reduce energy consumption.

"As temperatures plummet, energy usage and home heating bills inevitably rise," PSC Chairman David Armstrong said. "But a few simple steps can help limit the effect."
