LWC will host Midwest Cycling Road Races this weekend

Columbia/Adair County welcomes one of the most important events in Cycling Saturday and Sunday, featuring of the two top athletic programs at Lindsey Wilson College. Already, 18 college and university cycling road teams are expected to be here, with a possibility of more to arrive unannounced.

Adair County, KY, will be the site of three USA Cycling sanctioned Road Race events on Saturday and Sunday, February 23-24, 2013 at three different venues.
  • 8amCT, Saturday, February 23, 2013, team time trials will be held at the Kelleyville Church, 77 Kellyville Road, Columbia, KY in the Kelleyville Community of Adair County. (Garmin Coordinates N37*11'53.0"W85*19'30.3" Road race)
  • 12pm noon CT, Saturday, February 23, 2013, A road race will start at Purdy Separate Baptist Church, 8004 Liberty Road, Columbia Road (Garmin Coordinates: N37.14883 W85.19336). Course is a 25 mile loop following KY 206 to Snake Creek Road to KY 551/Knifley Road to KY 76 to Little Cake Road, including the killer Little Cake Hill.
  • 9amCT start, final race at 1pmCT, Sunday, February 24, 2013 Criterium races start behind Adair County High School, 526 Indian Drive. This is one of the most popular events because spectators will be able to see the entire race in one close area.
Lindsey Wilson Cycling Coach Dave Grigsby expects some 500 to 1,000 or more to be in Adair County over the two exciting days.

Official Practice Test (OPT) will be offered for GED

Required before taking GED test; this test is free

The Adair County Adult Education Center, is offering an Open OPT at Columbia/Adair County Chamber of Commerce Basement, 201 Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY, 9amCT, Friday, March 1, 2013. The OPT is the Official Practice Test for the GED, and students must take and pass the OPT in order to qualify to take the GED test. On Friday, March 1, 2013, the center is offering any person who is interested in taking the GED the opportunity to take the OPT without any class time required.

Boil Water Advisory Issued for area on Northside Columbia, KY

UPDATE:CAUD Boil Water Advisory Lifted ffor Northside of Columbia
Date Issued: 2/21/13; Time Issued: 11amCT; posted CM 1:17pmCT A boil water advisory is in effect for consumers of Columbia Adair Utilities District for customers on
Butler Street, Dillon Street, Pittman Street, Greensburg Street, Knox Street, Travis Street, Murray Lane, Sunny Hill Drive, Clinton Street, Hemlock Circle, Garrett Street, Center Street, Todd Street, Terry Street, Page Street, Bowen Street, Smith Street, Hummingbird Lane and Taxus Street.
The advisory has been issued due to a main line leak. Following such an event, the potential exists for bacteriological contamination of the water supply therefore this Boil Water Advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure. Until further notice, boil all water used for drinking and cooking, bringing the water to a rolling boil for three minutes before using. This advisory will remain in effect until the situation has been corrected and test results have shown the water to be of an acceptable quality. Boys Basketball: ACHS Indians, TCHS Cardinals going Regional

But next, Indians will face Taylor County Cardinals, 62-41 winners over Campbellsville High Eagles in the other first round district game for 20th District Title. In last night's game with Marion County, ACHS 8th grader Chance Melton has 24 points to lead team. Eighth grader Kel Stotts has 15. Other - Matt Fudge 12, Ty Bennett 4, Marshall Shelley 4, Zach Hutchison 3, and Gabriel Alfaro 3. Also seeing action were Jayden Willis, Jake Hixson, Tanner Pooler, Colton Back, Kyle Burton, Aaran Taylor, and Kyle Burton.

It will be Adair County vs. Taylor County for the championship of the 20th District at 6:30pmCT/7:30pmET, Friday night, February 22, 2013, at Adair County's John Burr Memorial Gymnasium, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY.

Both teams will advance to 5th Region Tournament. In two previous meetings this season, Taylor County has won, by 46-37 on December 7, 2012, but by a much smaller margin in the second meeting on the Indians' home court, on January 22, 2013, with the score Adair County 38, Taylor County 40.

Hospital Auxiliary gives $32,000 to Westlake Regional Hospital

Thanks to Sue Stivers, we learned that the Westlake Hospital Auxiliary has presented $32,000 to Mr. David Rasmussen, CEO of the hospital, on Monday night, February 18, 2013.

The presentation was made at the Hospital Dining Room, 901 Westlake Drive, Columbia, KY.

A statement from Mr. Rasmussen on the gift has been requested and will be posted as soon as he completes other, more important concerns, according to Cheryl Wall. -EW

National 4-H Council gets 4-Star rating on Charity Navigator

Responsible Giving

There's a good news for South Central Kentuckians who support 4-H programs on Charity Navigator. It's one of the featured organizations, receiving a 4 out of 4 Star rating, with on a possible 70, obtains an Overall rating of 67.03, a Financial rating of 65.80, and a perfect 70 for Accountability and Transparency. Fire on Conover Lane contained to garage

News from the Adair County Fire Department

The Adair County Fire Department responded Wednesday morning, February 20, at 6:49amCT, to 613 Conover Lane, Columbia, KY, to a residence owned by Jackie and Brenda Bardin. Fire was contained to garage area. It apparently originated from a wood stove. There were 14 firemen on the scene for about 1 hour. Donald Hare.
