She was a native of Whitley County, KY and the matriarch of a highly regarded Russell County, KY, family, the widow of the late Dr. Joe T. Pettey, MD. She was a registered nurse and a member of the Russell Springs, KY, Baptist Church.

Arlene Pettey, 85, of Russell Springs, KY died Thursday, October 11, 2012 at her home.

Funeral services will be at 2pmCT, Saturday, October 20, 2012 at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel with Charles Gore officiating. Interment in the Russell Springs City Cemetery. Visitation will be 5pm-7pmCT, Friday, October 19, 2012, at the funeral Home.

James Floyd Squires, Taylor Co., KY (1924-2012)

He was a native of Green County, KY, and the patriarch of a distinguished Taylor County, KY, family. He professed faith in Christ and was a member of the St. Mark United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War II, having served his country honorably in the United States Army in the 289th Field Artillery Battalion. He served many years on the Campbellsville City Council, Campbellsville Zoning Commission, and was a retired residential builder and local businessman

Robber takes undertermined amount of cash at gunpoint from United Citizens Bank, Campbellsville Road Branch. Employee, employee's vehicle taken at gunpoint. Employee released, car recovered at Dollar General Store. Robbery under investigation under supervision of Officer Tracy McCarol.

4-H Cloverbuds Meeting, Oct. 18, 2012

There will be a meeting of the 4-H Cloverbuds program at 6pmCT, Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the Adair County Cooperative Extension Service, 409 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY. Cloverbuds is a program for youth ages 5-8 years of age and will be doing hands on projects with the youth.

Jack R. Williams, 79, of Cookeville, Tennessee died Friday, October 5, 2012 at Highlands Medical Center in Sparta, Tennessee.

Graveside service was held at 2pmET, Monday, October 8, 2012 at Berea Cemetery, Berea, Kentucky, with Pastor Jeff Brown officiating. Reppert Funeral Home, 110 N. Broadway, Berea, KY entrusted with arrangements.

Remembering Emma Lloyd: She was loved by all she knew

She grew up in hard times, orphaned at a very young age, she was taken in by another good family, Lorin and Annie Hadley. She married and raised three kids, earning income as postmistress at Cundiff and supplementing that with a garden every year. Adair Co. Cattlemen's Association receives $195,000 CAIP funds

News from the Adair County Extension Office

The Kentucky Agricultural Development Board approved $195,000 in Agricultural Development Funds for the Adair County C.A.I.P. program (County Agricultural Investment Program) to be administered by the Adair County Cattlemen's Association. C.A.I.P. is designed to provide farmers with incentives to allow them to improve and diversify their current production practices. CAIP covers a wide variety of agricultural enterprises in its 11 county investment areas. The investment areas are:
  1. Agricultural Diversification
  2. Cattle Genetics Improvement
  3. Cattle Handling
  4. Commercial Poultry, Dairy & Swine
  5. Farm Fencing Improvement
  6. Farm Structure & Commodity Handling
  7. Farmland Improvement & Utilization
  8. Goat & Sheep Diversification
  9. On-Farm Energy Efficiency & Production
  10. On-Farm Water Enhancement
  11. Technology & Leadership Development
This program is a 50% cost-share program with a maximum funding of $1,500 per farm operation. Applications for the program will be available October 29-November 9, 2012 during regular business hours at the Adair County Extension Office located at 409 Fairground Street in Columbia. The man charged in the murder of Wendell "Gleason" Pyles of Columbia has pled not guilty at his arraignment last Thursday, October 11, 2012, in Casey County, KY. William Rigdon of Lebanon, KY was charged with shooting and killing Pyles last month at Tarter Gate Company in Dunnville, KY. Meanwhile...Rigdon's wife Kara dissappeared in 2010 and has never been found. Rigdon was questioned in the case, but never charged. Kentucky State Police continue to investigate both cases. - Larry Smith
