Calvin Puckett, Jr, Green County, KY (1924-2012)

Calvin Puckett, Jr. was born February 18, 1924 in Sonora, KY to the late Calvin Puckett, Sr. and Sarah Anna Geralds Puckett. He departed this life Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at the Woodlawn Terrace Health Care Facility in Elizabethtown, KY, having attained the age of eighty-eight years, seven months and twenty-one days.

Mr. Puckett had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Greensburg Methodist Church. In 1988 he retired as a General Manager of T.C.R. Inc., a subsidiary of Texas City Refining. He was a United States Army Veteran, serving during World War II. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Greensburg Masonic Lodge #54 F & A.M., the Central KY Amateur Radio Club, American Radio Relay League, Quarter Century Wireless Association, a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and James L. Pruitt VFW Post 5813, Greensburg, KY. He was also a member of the Rob Lowe American Legion Post 124 Greensburg, KY and a charter member of the Green County Golf Club.

She was a member of a large, highly regarded Taylor County, KY, family. She was the widow of Raymond Brewer. She leaves six direct living descendants. She was a retired medical assistant. She professed faith in Christ and was of the Christian Faith

Essie Brewer, 76, of Campbellsville, KY, died at 1:36pmET, Wednesday, October 10, 2012 in Campbellsville, KY.

The funeral service will be at 11amET/10amCT, Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Avenue, Campbellsville, KY, by Rev. Haywood Riner. Burial will be in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens, 3878 Greensburg Road, Campbellsville, KY.

In letter lauding leadership of Superintendent Alan W. Reed, Mr. Desai commends the actions of Local Planning Committee, the Board of Education, and Mr. Reed for proactive efforts to reconfigure school facilities, and, especially for taking control of own destiny

The reconfiguration of Adair County Schools recommended by the Local Planning Board and Superintendent Alan W. Reed and approved by the Adair County Board of Education is drawing high praise in high places.

Associate Commissioner Hiren Desai of the Kentucky Department of Education wrote to Superintendent Reed saying, "I wanted to compliment you on your proactive efforts to reconfigure the school facilities in your district. I saw the news article in the KSBA new feed and the following excerpt resonates with me:

Sugarfoot Farm Rescue sends thanks for generous support

By Peg Schaeffer Last Friday two pickup trucks pulled up to our gate. One was loaded with dog & cat food, the other was full of bales of straw. Wanda Appleget, her sister, Pam Elliot, and their husbands went to various people and businesses on our behalf and asked for donations.

The two loads of food and straw were a result of their efforts. The next day they brought more.

Concert celebrates Charles Dickens' Birth, Day of Alignment

COLUMBIA, KY - The numbers line up on Thursday, and so two Lindsey Wilson College musical ensembles are going to celebrate 10-11-12 day. The Lindsey Wilson Concert Choir and students from a class on church methods and materials will give a short Thursday morning concert in W.W. Slider Humanities Center Recital Hall. Dubbed "SoundBites Recital," the free concert will be at 11:30amCT in Slider Recital Hall, 155 Blue Raider Drive, Columbia, KY. "So if you are in the community and are close-by for lunch, we hope to see you at the Slider Recital Hall," said LWC Director of Choral Activities Gerald Chafin.
