John Eubank, who installed CH Basket, was devout Christian ![]() Adair County Fiscal Court Report, October 9, 2012 By Ed Waggener In last night's Adair County Fiscal Court lengthy meeting, Ellen Zornes, President of the Adair Heritage Association, presented a detailed report, citing from a booklet created by Adair County Library Director Lee Ann Jessie, which clarified much of the Association's strong recommendation that the French Art Scrolls on the basket on the Adair County Courthouse are simply decorative artwork used in the early 1900's, with no religious connotation. Zornes, who was accompanied by Jessie and Adair County Historian Mike Watson and others, urged the Fiscal Court members to simply leave the basket as it is. She told the court that the basket was added under the supervision of a devoted Christian layman and member of one of Adair County's most respected families, John Eubank, who was also one of the longest serving Adair County magistrates in history, and added that she did not think he would have put the basket on the courthouse if it had any meaning other than as architectural art. For the past three Adair County Court meetings, local minister Troy Strange has urged that the basket be removed. He has been given a very respectful reception by the County Judge and the Court, but the court seems inclined not to take further action - although they did not take any final action.
