Query: Searching for the Royse Family Cemetery, near KY 206

REUNIONS/HOMECOMINGS/GENEALOGY

Mark Silas Tackitt writes:
Greetings,

I am from Seattle and will be sojourning through Columbia during the first week of October. I am intending to locate the Royse Family Cemetery which is located somewhere along KY 206. Having walked through the google photos of the highway, it's not clear where the cemetery may actually be. My guess is in the vicinity of the Royse Road.

My interest in locating this early pioneer cemetery is that I am of the Royse family. My great great grandfather was born in or near Columbia. He moved away before the Civil War. His grandfather was one of the last Revolutionary War veterans in Adair County. There are only twenty plus Royses in this cemetery, but a stop there is important to me as many generations of my relations are from Columbia.

Any address, landmarks or other tidbits would be very much appreciated.

--Mark Silas Tackitt
Thanks, Mr. Tackitt: The Royse Cemetery is not among the 100+ for which we have Street & Number for Venue, so this is a case for a genealogist at the Adair County Public Library, 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY; the Adair County 911 Center 270-384-4760; the Adair County Clerk's Office in the Annex Building, 424 Public Square, and one of our readers. We're post your inquiry in the hopes that one of our readers will know, and as a reminder that if one of our staff has the gumption to go find the cemetery, we'll be able to post more in greater detail here on ColumbiaMagazine.com. This is one of the great early families of Adair County whose outstanding contributions continue to this day. - EW

The Man Who Does It All

At the Quick Stop this morning, we tried to honor the birthday of one of Columbia's legends, with several present, including Danny Propes, Rollen Coomer, even Dr. Roger Smith, DMD trying to lead the song, but, in the end, Junior Stotts, the honoree stopped the serenade, and took over, and led the tribute to himself, because - to make a long story short - Junior said he was the only one there who could carry a tune. - Ralph Roy Waggener
