Frieda Yates recalls the Belden Place on KY 49, Casey Co., KY

Swinging Bridges

Frieda Yates writes:
My grandparents lived across the creek at the Casey and Marion County line. There was a swinging bridge they crossed; also a concrete slab there. I remember walking across that bridge very many times. Their names were W.F. Belden and his wife I think this picture is further on toward Bradfordsville from the Casey and Marion line. -Frieda Yates

The Reed Clan grew up in the Big South Fork of the Rolling Fork

At one time, every house along the Big South Fork had a swinging bridge, the writer notes, saying. "They created a spectacular sight along both the Little South Fork and Big South Fork of the Rolling Fork." he remembers the thrill of setting up oscillations on the bridges, but his grandfather had a quick way of putting a stop to such activity. He doesn't do that anymore. "I lived dangerously in those days," he writes.

By Alan W. Reed

Linda's photo and Lee Murphy's comments brought back special memories for me. The photos were taken just across Casey/Marion County line off KY 49 near Bradfordsville on Big South Fork of the Rolling Fork.

Most of the Reed clan, including my grandparents, Lewis and Chelcie, lived in this beautiful area situated in the knobs.

Swinging bridge on KY 49 goes to Jack Evans

Pastor of Egypt Christian Church remembers many visits there. Suggests nearby Whippoorwill Hollow Road for another scenic route, with another well maintained swinging bridge and the picturesque Pleasant Valley Christian Church
PAUL PATTON writes:
It is late Sunday night and I have just viewed the photo of the swinging bridge which is correctly identified as being in Marion County and is visible from Hwy 49. The beautiful white farm house in the background is the Jack Evans property. I have visited this home many times being entertained royally by the Evans family while preaching in revivals at the Pleasant Valley Christian Church where the family were members. If you want to see a beautiful sight in this same community go back over and take the Whippoorwill Hollow Road and view the picturesque Pleasant Valley Church building. Another excellent swinging bridge in this area is located on the J. D. Ewing farm and it is also visible from Hwy 49.Paul Patton - Paul Patton
