News from the Adair Co., KY, School District

Like Adair students, the members of the Board of Education must also do their homework.

Once a month, Floyd Burton, Marsha Walker, Mike Harris, Rebecca Turner and Joseph Payne receive a thick packet in the mail. It is full of financial reports, test data, and a long list of materials from the state and federal government that each must study and decipher before the monthly school board meeting. And while they don't have to take tests, each must also commit to ample classroom instruction in the form of regular state update training.

Can pets be buried with people in Adair County, KY?

Reader input requested

By Ed Waggener

There's a trend among pet owners asking to be buried with their beloved animal companions.

Inquiries have been made to ColumbiaMagazine.com asking whether this can be done, and so far, our inquiry indicates that it is a matter of cemetery regulations and policies more than state law. An article on Itchmo: News for Dogs and Cats, Lawsuit Against Owner Who Buried Dog In Cemetery is about the burial of a dog in a Uniontown, KY cemetery and the article implies that some objectors wanted a law against the burial, and some objected to the dog's name, "S___head ." being on the headstone, and a priest objected on religious grounds.

And there are changes being made in the law. This story, a People can be buried with their pets in New York State again is about revisions in New York State law recently.

If any readers have information or opinions about pets being buried with owners in Adair County, or about Adair County Cemeteries which allow humans and pets to be buried together, or of any plans for establishing such a cemetery, please send comments using any Contacts/Submit button.
