Big News Today: Westlake Regional Hospital stabilized

Capsule report: Some Major Good News came out in last night's meeting of the Adair County Hospital District's regular meeting, which show, on balance what appears to be much more hope after Adair Fiscal Court, banks, intercede to stabilize financial situation:

1) The Hospital's $1.7 million cash infusion was completed December 27, 2011 with Adair Fiscal Court supervised loans through local banks
2) Latimore Black Morgan & Cain Audit gives clear but worst case picture of Westlake Financial condition, but it's followed by post audit turnarounds.
3) Technical defaults moving over $12 million of bond debt to current liabilities is being changed with promise by Waivers by Consortium of Lenders and board authorization to sign necessary paperwork.
4) Psych unit reactivation moving quickly
5) Health Insurance costs lowered. Dental benefit stays same.

Tight times ahead, but prognosis much better, with benefit of initial Spectrum Health Partners cost control, management changes and critical County Government, local bank actions, political efforts. Questions remain on management's marketing effort, other matters. -EW

Golden Bay opening target moved to January 11, 2012

Golden Bay hopes to fill void left by sale, closing of Long John Silvers. Korean, a first time ethnic food in Columbia coming with Golden Bay, now scheduled to open January 11, 2012 at 1764 Campbellsville RD, Columbia, KY.

Peter Cheng announced yesterday that the restaurant group which now includes the Circle R and Tray's Garden and earlier announced the opening of a third, will open that store by January 11, 2012, instead of the earlier target date of January 18, 2012.

The restaurant will be called Golden Bay, and will be located in the one-time Chilaquiles Restaurant. On Monday, the Chilaquiles name still badged the Northside Columbia, KY building, but that is only temporary, Mr. Cheng said.

Golden Bay will feature three lines: Fish and Chips/Seafood, Mexican, and Korean Cuisine, with 10 featured items in each group. A Korean chef is already hired for the restaurant, Cheng said.

Golden Bay is hoping to fill a void left by the closing of the Long John Silver's Seafood Restaurant in the 1000 block of Jamestown Street. That building has been sold, with neighbors speculating that it will be replaced by a banking facility.

Cheng said that plans to make the Circle R a 24 hour restaurant by January 1, 2011, is still on track.

Carol Perkins: The Long Island Medium

Columnist is drawn to the show, not by belief in the spirits, but by the spirt of the Long Island Medium. She writes: "Not one to dwell on spirits or ghost or paranormal behavior, I cant believe I am attracted to this show. I dont watch it because I believe she sees spirits, but I watch it because she has a spirit worth watching. You just have to see it to believe it-or not."

Do any of you have your own personal psychic? I hear this is the newest trend among the rich and famous. At least my tabloid magazines suggest that all the stars visit theirs weekly. I bet the psychics of the rich and famous dont have neon signs.

First Splanations, I-III: Jim, on matters mostly geographic

The letter below came in response to an urgent need to know the relationships of Jimtown and Th' Sprangs to the Sacred Triangle of Ono, Sano, and Esto, and was directed to JIM, a Forever Russell Countian who now lives in the Far Outland in self-imposed exile. His heart remains true to Canaan-land. His soul sung songs are constant to the Russell County Promised Land, prettier yet, than that of any other Nashville troubadour, though no highway is named for him - for JIM - for Jimtown, that Jerusalem on Monument Circle (as we see it, not JIM), was named neither for him - JIM - or Jimtown Coomer; though it ought to have been, rather than some old English King. His Splanations, with links to the writ of The Venerable Cyrus, follow:

From JIM, able still, in his Elba

Ed, I'm breaking my quasi-self-imposed silence to deliver this message in reply to your kind letter of yesterday.I'm glad the Neatsville Home Guards ar-tickle brought joy to your world. Wouldn't you love to know the identity of "J.W.B"?

Governor Beshear responds to new poll results on gaming

Statement based on Survey by Garin-Hart-Yang Research Group survey. Click here for survey of the December 27, 2011 report as Bloodhorse Journal PDF, which shows 87% of Kentuckians want issue on ballot

By Terri Richardson and Terry Sebastian
News form Governor Steve Beshear's Communications Office

FRANKFORT, Ky. - "Once again, a new poll shows Kentuckians demand an opportunity to vote on expanded gaming. The call for a direct vote by the people of this state has only gotten stronger over the last few years, and we should not make our citizens wait a moment longer to have their voices heard.

"For far too long, millions of hard-earned Kentucky dollars have flowed across our rivers to surrounding states - helping to build schools and roads, and hire teachers and police officers in Indiana, Illinois, and West Virginia. That's Kentucky money, and it belongs here where it can directly help our people.

We're working very hard to prepare for the upcoming legislative session, and one of my top priorities will be a constitutional amendment to take the gaming question directly to our people. It's time for Kentuckians to decide the state's future on expanded gaming." - Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear
