JIM: How the Neatsville Home Guards saved Jamestown, KY

Jim has uncovered one of the dandiest stories of the Civil War. The late Pete Walker and I read it a few decades back and both agreed it should never be forgotten. Now, thanks to JIM it has been found and is reprinted below. It is recommended reading for both Native Born Adair Countians and Born Again Adair Countians by Choice. And if, perchance, a Jamestonian is grateful and hugs a Neatsvillager for saving the Capitol of the County, and if the story is a reminder to those in the Sprangs who think it was a bad idea to save Jamestown at all that Jamestown had to be saved to assure peaceful habitation of their own town, so much the better, so much greater our indebtedness to JIM for this fresh revelation. - EW

By JIM

An eyewitness account of how the Neatsville Home Guards marched to Jamestown and saved the Green River country from the Johnny Rebs.

Steve Hamilton, Adair Co. KY, native, also pro basketball player

Comments re article 49030 Kevin Bridgewaters Best kept Adair County secretDee Dowell writes:
Ed,

Didn't Adair County native Steve Hamilton play professional basketball for a season or two as well as pro baseball? That would have been in the late 1950s or early 1960s. (He played high school basketball somewhere in Indiana.) -DEE DOWELL
You are absolutely right, I think. He was also an All-American. Perhaps Steve Hamilton's greatest claim to fame is that he and Kentucky All State Basketball Player and Lindsey Wilson College standout Darron Ballou are both Egyptians, whose homes are within a mile of each other, in different times, in in greater Absher, aka Egypt, Adair County District 6, Kentucky. And we have this on the authority of practically the pharaoh of Egypt, Mike Curry. -EW

Dear Mr. Stone,

On behalf of my family I wish to extend to you and your faithful readers of Columbia Magazine Online our most sincere thanks and gratitude for faithful thoughts and prayers for my Dad Chuck Hinman. Words cannot express the joy it brought my Dad to see his writings published beyond our Oklahoma borders! For that, I and my family are truly grateful.

May this holiday season bring all of you rich blessings from above.

Sincerely yours,
Paul Hinman

Remembering Jimmy Forsyth: Will be missed by so many

'He's now in a place to help God keep score' -TRAVIS PAUL SCOTT

By Travis Paul Scott

Jimmy was liked and loved by people all over this region. He enjoyed the kids at our school (Adair County) and they all knew him and thought a lot of him.

I will miss him at the state tournament this year. We always got to Rupp Arena early in the morning of the games and sorted out all of the world's problems downstairs as we had breakfast.

I'll miss Jimmy and so will many more. He is now in a place to help God keep score. God bless his soul and keep a close watch over him. --Travis Paul Scott
