He was a beloved figure in the Green County Sports community. He was score keeper and clock manager for the Green County School District. He was a member of the Columbia Church of God and the Greensburg Baptist Church. He was a native of Adair County, KY and will be returned to Tarter's Chapel near the Milltown Community for interment.

Sharon Ronoh, adds national athlete of year to honors

Lindsey Wilson Track and Field Star. a junior from Timboroa, Kenya, already an All-American

COLUMBIA, KY - Lindsey Wilson College junior Sharon Ronoh has been named 2011 KTCCCA College Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year and College Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Year. The Timboroa, Kenya, native, earned National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics All-American honors this season in cross country as well as being the Mid-South Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year.

At the 2011 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in May, Ronoh earned NAIA All-American honors in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meter runs. The KTCCCA will honor the 2011 recipients at its annual banquet. -CHRIS WELLS

The kids did wonderful job with Providence Baptist Church Christmas program: Hello thank you so much for posting about our Christmas program. Providence Baptist Church, 554 Providence Church RD,( in Adair Co.), Russell Springs, KY was filled to capacity Wednesday night, December 21, 2011, to hear these wonderful boys and girls sing and speak about the real reason for Christmas.All the kids did a wonderful job and we are so proud of them! The kids in the accompanying photo are from left:, Reece Giles, Riley Cowan, Savon Stapp, and Kobe Stapp. -SABRINA STAPP

Fatal crash on West Egypt Road takes life of Taylor Co. man

VW Beetle leaves road, strikes tree. Driver pronounced dead at scene by Adair County, KY, Coroner Todd Akin

COLUMBIA, KY - Trooper Andy Olson is investigating a single vehicle fatal collision that occurred Thursday morning at 7:30amCT, approximately 9 miles north of Columbia, KY on West Egypt Road. Robert K. Rhodes, age 33, of Campbellsville, KY was traveling west on West Egypt Road in a 1998 Volkswagen Beetle when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. Rhodes was not wearing a seatbelt and pronounced deceased at the scene by the Adair County Coroner. Trooper Olson was assisted by the Adair County Sheriff's Department, Adair County EMS, Adair County Fire and Rescue, and the Adair County Coroner.

Coach Grigsby's push for BMX Collegiate Racing gets results

COLUMBIA, KY BMX Racing is coming to collegiate cycling in 2012-13 and that's the way it should be according to Lindsey Wilson College cycling coach David Grigsby.

"There are so many great athletes that participate in BMX that this is an obvious addition to the USA Cycling stable of competitions," Grigsby said. "We are ecstatic that this has finally come to fruition."

VFW Post 6097 members asked to pay dues by Dec. 31, 2011

VFW, VFW Auxiliary, meet each second Thursday; next meeting, January 12, 2011

A reminder to all members of Columbia Post 6097 Veterans of Foreign Wars that your annual membership dues are due by December 31, 2011 for the calender year 2012. They may be mailed to VFW Post 6097, PO Box 891, Columbia, Ky, 42728.

I also would like to remind all members that our regular monthly VFW and VFW Ladies Auxiliaries meetings are held on at 7pmCT, each second Thursday, at the VFW Post, 411 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY. We hope to start the new year with some new projects and activities so come join us.

Any veteran that would like to join and does not know if you qualify may contact any member for more information or assistance.

Adair County Hospital Board approves bond agreements

The Adair County Hospital Board last voted last night, Wednesday, December 21, 2011, in a Special Called meeting to approve paperwork related to the $1.7 million bond issue approved by Adair Fiscal Court on December to provide interim financing for 2011.

The votes were as follows:
  1. Approval of Terms for Bank Financing: The vote was 5-0, with Yes votes by Chairman Jim Evans, and Members Bradley Irvin, John Nall, Josh Harden, and Russell Guy Perkins.

  2. Approval of Resolution with Adair County: This measure was to give assurances to the people of Adair County and the Adair Fiscal Court. The vote was 4-1, with Chairman Evans, and members John Nall, Bradley Irvin, and Josh Harden voting for it. Member Russell Guy Perkins voted against.

The Adair County Hospital Board, governing body for Westlake Regional Hospital, Westlake Healthcare Team, meets each last Tuesday at 6:30pm in the board room of Westlake Regional Hospital, 901 Westlake Drive, Columbia, KY 42728. The board consists of members James Evans, Josh Harden, John Nall, and Bradley Irvin, and Russell Guy Perkins. The meetings are open to the public.Only the items on the agenda could be discussed in a Special Called Meeting.

The word 'solstice' was not in his vocabulary, nor the term 'equinox.'Rather, he was a country man with an intense interest in weather and seasons.He quoted the Old Farmers' Almanac, he kept thermometers fastened to outside windowsills on all sides of his house, comparing the temperature during a winter cold spell to the nth of a degree.
