Sue Perkins photo brings back memories for Kniflitonian

Richard Hovious writes:
Brings back a lot of fond memories - one not so fond. After Sunday night services in the early forties, I was "run over" in parking area just to left of the building in photo by Sam Goode; both wheels, both legs. Caused a lot of discussion around Knifley. Sue's (Sue Perkins') mother, (Mary Lee) nursed me back to my feet again. -RICHARD HOVIOUS.

Mrs. Ruby Barbee Travelogue at Rotary was excellent

Hunter Durham writes:
Mrs. Ruby Barbee gave a wonderful account of her trip from Columbia, Louisville, New York, Finland, Moscow, China, Korea and back home last evening, Monday, November 14, 2011, at the Rotary Club meeting at Lindsey Wilson College's Cranmer Dining Center.

Her accounts of the shows, sites that she saw and experienced were excellant. Her trip was over 40 years ago when travel was not like it is today. She detailed the changing of the wheel axles on the train from Russia to China as China has different width which was to protect them against any movement of armies from other countries attacking by rail.

As Mrs. Barbee reached the point to fly home, a plane from Alaska was shot down by North Korea just hours before she was to take off. She said she had no concern but was glad she made it home. She and her husband have traveled to several countries and she provided a map of the world showing by small pins the various places that she visited.

The Rotary Club thanks this fine lady for the unusal program.-HUNTER DURHAM

Terrible accident KY 55 between Coburg and Tebbs Bend Road

There's been a terrible accident between Coburg and Tebb's Bend Road on the New Columbia Road north of Asbury United Methodist Church in Taylor County. As I drove to work this morning, we were routed off 55 to the left just past the garage I mentioned and the little street came out at the KOA campground turn opposite the plant entry. You'll probably get something from the Taylor County Sheriff's Department. -LINDA WAGGENER

We are waiting for a fax from the Taylor County Sheriff's Office for details -EW

Further elucidation: On S. Wordsworth, Dr. Koch, Eubank Springs

The Wayfaring Stranger writes:

Mr. Editor:

It occurs to this Wayfaring Stranger that Mr. R.C. Eubank's rhapsodic ruminations about the qualities of the life-giving liquid drawn from the old spring-house may have "inspired" the parody of Mr. Sam Wordsworth's rhymed ruminations. According to Jim's article, Mr. Eubank uttered those words in 1900.
