Comments re article 48104 CM gets pretty good scolding from the COFMaury E, Lewis writes:
Pantry- a room where food OR dishes are stored.

Larder- should be cool as possible, construction so as to exclude flies and vermine, easy to clean and equipped with shelves.

Maybe you were right to call it a pantry. Melewi -aka Maury E. Lewis
Melewi, thanks! How far you'll go to comfort the afflicted and console the whupped! Maybe you are right; I don't know. But the concession has already been made. Matching wits with the COF for me, is a lost cause. -EW

Addie was even more thrilled when she found out she got to wear a button today honoring her two favorite veterans, her PaPa and "Uncle" Kris Knight! -MELISSA STONE

The next previous Chuck Hinman column, Chuck Hinman: IJMA No. 099: Help for Visually Impaired Dummy

By Chuck Hinman

Many people who haven't known me long ask when I became interested in keyboard music. I assume they ask because it is unusual to find an 85 year old man still "tickling the ivories." To make things worse, I arrogantly wear a T-shirt given me by good friend Orva Lee Brown that boasts "88 keys -- 10 fingers -- NO PROBLEM!"

Low Adair voter turnout today, if absentees a predictor

Election Junkies: To see how the vote went in Adair County four years ago, click to In Adair, a GOP sweep; Governor gets 67.74% of vote

If the vote on the Absentee voting machine this year is any indicator, Adair County will have a very low turnout. When the machine was closed yesterday afternoon, November 7, at 4:30pmCT, only 58 had voted on the machine, Clerk Sheila Blair reported. In 2007, when Steve Beshear overwhelming beat Gov. Ernie Fletcher - who arguably had done more for Adair County than all other previous Governors combined - over 200 voted in that race alone. And, only 58 paper ballots, an extremely low gubernatorial year vote, were mailed out, Clerk Blair said. -ED WAGGENER

Does Charles Marshburn vote in Wheet Fellowship Hall?

Charles Marshburn writes:

Thanks. For an official answer, call 270-384-2801, and talk to officials in Adair County Court Clerk Sheila Blair's office.

As far as I know, if you live in South Columbia/Harmony precinct, in the Honorable Sammy Baker's Magisterial District 3, are an otherwise qualified voter, and can pass the scrutiny of the election officers at that precinct - Vickie Johnson, Judy Spoon, Ramona Akin, Angie Estes - why, yes, you vote in Wheet Fellowship next to the Columbia Church of the Nazarene. -ED WAGGENER

Rooster retracted: the night Mr. Huddleston crowed too soon

Chicken dinner in Burkesville the night of the November 8, 1916 election was what Mr. Huddleston, (or 95 years later, Mr. Williams, if predictions are correct today) had in mind. Uncooked Corvus humiliatus was and - and may be - more the order the day. -CM

By JIM

The presidential election held 95 years ago today -- November 8th, 1916 -- was a real nail biter. The campaign of the incumbent, Democrat Woodrow Wilson, hinged to a large extent on a slogan he disliked: "He kept us out of war," referring to the conflict then raging in Europe. The challenger, Charles Evans Hughes, was a highly respected jurist who had been appointed to the Supreme Court during the presidency of Theodore Roosevelt.
