Letter: When God made Kentucky, he was really feeling good! Looking forward to beautiful new home in Adair County Maria writes Hi Ed: How nice to receive your response to my comment and - what a great heading for it! I'm really tickled. I was born in Evansville, Indiana and raised in Arizona since I was 3 years old. I'm really old now!Maria: This is great news! You sound exactly like the kind of people we are looking for here. Come to think of it, we've been getting very few rejects/send backs for failure to assimilate lately, though I haven't checked with Dr. Johnny Vaughan, headmaster of the Adair Assimilation Academy lately. Generally, his notions and prejudices trump my own. Almost all really good people are coming in, as I see it. -EW. 2011-08-24 15:49:52 | Comments | Printable version

Letter: Lindsey Wilson more like enriching legume Growing like kudzu not an apt comparison, writer's message maintains The main difference between a patch of land taken over by kudzu and Lindsey Wilson College is that the kudzu chokes out fields of grass, trees, etc. and kills it. Lindsey Wilson, on the other hand, while buying up neighboring property and using it or converting it to USE for the college, is actually acting more like a legume crop and helping fertilize its home area - bringing jobs to the natives and bringing in money thru the students it attracts from outside Adair County and staff (faculty and administrative/support) it attracts into our area -- they come here - they spend their money in our businesses - they help our local economy grow. It even helps the surrounding fields (counties) with money that people associated with the college spend in them!! - Richard RainesComments re photo 41541 The Changing Face of Fairground ST Columbia KY II 2011-08-24 10:04:49 | Comments | Printable version

Knifley, KY cryptologist deciphers coded SPIDERS message We should have known they'd know at Knifley. It's practically all they talk about at the Crossroads Store. Science. -CM Jon Halsey writes: Ed, you really need to get out more. Note the Capitalization! As any LW science major would know SPIDERs refers to the United Nations- SPace based Information for Disaster management and Emergency Response program (SP I D ER). The Chinese are in the process or have recently launched a satellite under the auspices of this program to detect earth anomalies that could lead to seismic activity. - Jon HalseyThank you, Jon Halsey. My God! I didn't know that and should have. And they tell me Elvis is dead, too. What IS going on in the world? And it goes to show you: Yes, any LW science major (but not a member of Garrison Keillor's Society of English Majors) would know what SPIDERS means. That's why we encourage all little boys and girls to hie themselves to Fugitte Science Center and become scientists. They're the ones who get buildings named for them at LWC. -EW. 2011-08-24 07:43:57 | Comments | Printable version
