Reader is looking for Organic Chewing Tobacco

But he's concerned about nicotine crossing the Blood/Brain barrier
Comments re article 24942. Bruce Wilson has organic chewing tobacco crop ready to harvest

Bill Blackwell writes:
To Bruce Wilson, c/o ColumbiaMagazine.com,

Am 70 years old and have been chewing tobacco since age 10. Had a stroke in 2007 which still impairs my right side. Guess that will always be addicted to tobacco. That is why I was inquiring about Organic Chewing Tobacco.

It seems to me if the chemicals were not used at all (organic) then perhaps tobacco would be safer. Have read though that Nicotine crosses the Blood/Brain barrier - don't know what means but it don't sound too good.

Please email me or call and let me know if you have any of your organic chewing tobacco available - would like to try it.

Thank You, -Bill Blackwell
Thanks, Mr. Blackwell We did not receive your contact information. But if anyone, including Mr. Wilson, can answer his question, please do so through CM. Not sure if Mr. Blackwell's message is related, but CM did receive a call from Ft. Smith, AR from a party wanting Organic Chewing Tobacco, so the interest in Mr. WIlson's endeavor seems to be highly appreciated. So we do have that going for us. -EW

Sycamore Springs: Let Mammoth Sunflowers be tomato stakes

A tip to getting tomatoes, a unique garden look, plus seed for the birds!
Comments re photo 41371 The Whitehurst Diaries The Sunflower Experiment

By Cindy Meyer
News from Sycamore Springs

These sunflowers put me in mind of a nifty little gardening tip I used to use. When setting your tomatoes, try planting a Mammoth Sunflower seed in the hill along with it. As the tomato and sunflower grow together the tomato will outgrow the sunflower for a few weeks, and may have to be temporarily staked.

However, in a short time the sunflower will surpass the tomato, and soon have a stalk that will be strong enough to stake your tomato to. Just strip the lower leaves of the sunflower so they do not shade your tomato plant, and tie the tomato plant to the sunflower stalk.

It is easier than using cages and you will have plenty of area to stake your tomato plant to as the sunflower grows. In the end not only do you get a more unique garden, but you also get sunflower seeds to feed the birds in early fall.

As always...Cindy.

JIM: Revival fires spread across Adair Co. in fall of 1911

There was much redemption in Adair Co., KY in that year of fall fervor, 1911, and, "Jim" - a man of Melchizedekian mystery, perhaps of that time -notes with due reverence of one revival: This unequivocally qualifies as one of the greatest revival ever held in Adair County, and possibly even eclipses the well-known meeting held at Lovedale Church in 1985 with Bro. Cleston Pickett in the pulpit. The News of October 4th, 1911 reported that 'Large congregations gather at each service, and indications point to an awakening of the people.' with this open to challenge score: Lovedale (1985) - 105; Roberts Bros & Their Wives Protracted 3-Week Revival in Columbia, KY (2011) - 125, but does not cite any handicap for the wickeder state of human condition in the capitol city of Adair County of 100 years ago, relative to the more righteous population in the environs of Lovedale in 1985, nor whether, in his conservant nature, Murrell Burton was too modest about the phenomenon there on the Fringeland of the Sacred Triangle - Ono, Esto, Sano. -EW

By "Jim"

The summer and early fall of 1911 was long, hot, and dry. Perhaps the weather served as a reminder to the unsaved -- a foretaste of a glory not so divine, as it were. And too, perhaps the Elders and Reverends and Ministers and others of the Gospel used the weather as an analogy for things to come for the unrepentant.
