Query: Information on radio pioneers S.C. Bybee, Ray Doss A good friend of Alan Reed's, Jonathan Smith, is needing information about two Columbians who were co-founders of the Stanford, KY, radio station, WRSL The late S.C. Bybee and the late Ray Doss, who played such a big role in the establishment of WAIN-AM Radio. The call letters stood for W-Ray-Shely-Louis Mr. Smith's stations, Lincoln Garrard Broadcasting Company, Inc.Choice Radio CorporationWPBK-FM, WKFC-FM, WKKQ-FM, WYWY, WKFO will be having its 50 year anniversary employee reunion this weekend, and Mr. Smith is putting together a memorial for those who have passed on. His father, Calvin Smith, a giant of Kentucky broadcast and long time owner of WRSL and other radio stations, is remembered by Alan Reed as one of his greatest mentors. We'd also like to know about these Columbia, KY, radio pioneers. Does anyone remember Columbia's old telephone booths To ColumbiaMagazine.com Last night my husband, Larry Smith, (the real one; not the one on the radio -CM) and I were discussing the old telephone booths and does anyone recall how many Columbia had and where they were located at their time of use in Columbia, KY, and also what happened to them? We were wondering. -Sincerely, Rita Smith, Columbia, Ky Rita Smith Ironically, the other Larry Smith/Larry Smith, the Radio Guy, would likely have a picture of one of the antique phone booths. It was a shame that those phone booths couldn't be used more. There was always speculation about marital discord when a husband or wife was on the phone in one of the aluminum and class affairs, especially the one at Leo's Motel across from the Circle R. -EW 2011-08-02 11:22:18 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

Stolen Horse Trough located, but owner dismayed by attitudes of some toward loss Writer appreciative to those who helped, but unnerved to read comments for national public forum site stating that the theft was no big deal. Thinks it was a childish prank by ATV riders in the area By April Shepperd After an intense search, we have located the water trough which was stolen from our property on Antioch Church Road, July 22, 2011. It seems that some very irresponsible and childish ATV riders in our area took the tank from our property and drug it a quarter of a mile away only to toss it over a steep hill. This left our horses with no water during this incredibly hot weather. The story, however, seems to be how we found the stolen trough.
