Possible domestic response turns into drug bust

Nicest guy arrested. Sheriffs report hearing screams on response to report of possible domestic disturbance, but male suspect at residence told them, on porch of house, that he was only screaming to relieve stress. During welfare check, officers find home grow marijuana operation, exit home and secure warrant, and confiscate drug paraphernalia, and plants on re-entry, and arrest totally cooperative 50 year old, who faced two charges this evening, while lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail

By Ed Waggener

An Adair County man faced two charges in Adair County Jail this afternoon, Monday, July 18, 2011, following a rather strange string of events.

Dennis J. Allison, aged 50 years, was arrested, though Deputy Aaron Rainwater said it was almost hard to make the arrest, Allison was so cooperative and so nice - maybe the nicest man he ever had a part in taking to jail.

According to the sheriffs, it started when Adair County Deputies answered a call to investigate a possible domestic disturbance at Lot 16, on Rooks-Denton RD, they could hear, from the driveway entrance approximately 75 yards away, a man inside the residence screaming very loudly. At the house, they were met by a man on the front porch who told them he was simply screaming to relieve stress.

When the deputies entered the resident to make a welfare check, they report that they found that the man was the only person there, but they said they did discover a home grow marijuana operation.

Hosparus became like part of the Charles Marshall family

Ron Heath writes: "As a local volunteer with Hosparus of Central Kentucky, I'd like to share a copy of a letter received recently from the family of Charles Marshall."

By Mikki Marshall Flowers

Words do not express what Hosparus of Central Kentucky means to me.

As my father, Charles Marshall, faced the end of his life, he made the decision to leave the hospital and go home with the help of Hosparus of Central Kentucky. I have to say I was not for that decision as I did not want him to suffer and lose contact with his doctors.

Once at home, the Hosparus nurse came to the house to explain how they worked and that they would be in contact with my dad's doctor. The nurse spent quite a bit of time with the family and then with my dad to be sure all his needs were met. She was so sweet and caring that it seemed like a family member. He had visits from other nurses regularly and also a CNA would come for baths and other aid for my mother. There was also a chaplain on hand and he met with my family once but since we had our own pastor I'm afraid we didn't use his services as much as others do.

Bray who was a pinch hitter for the dunking booth, and to the donor of the calves, who has asked to remain anonymous. We had a lot of fun. We're still tallying the receipts. The final report is not ready yet, but we think it will be good.

We also want to congratulate the winners of the calves. Janie Coffey won the bull calf, and Justin Furkins won the heifer calf.

At long last, Carol Perkins: Dr. Oz

With apologies to CM Carol Perkins devotees: This article ought to have been posted before sunrise on Sunday with CM. It is more then 24 hours late. But there is a much better excuse than John Belushi gave Carrie Fisher in "The Blues Brothers." "Sorry I forgot to send before we left for vacation," The popular columnist wrote. "My mind is scattered," she explained. That being said, the column which follows is so good it's worth the 24 hour Carol Perkins Deprivation Syndrome suffering endured by her vast audience.
To see the next earlier Carol Perkins column, Carol Perkins: Slang

By Carol Perkins

My mother must stop quoting Dr. Oz or she is going to be arrested for practicing medicine without a license! No matter what the ailment, even a hint of pain, she refers to Dr. Oz. "He is the smartest man to TV," she declares right before she gives me what I know is coming...a remedy or a diagnosis.

Today, MONDAY with CM, July 18, 2011

Here are quick links to a fabulous SUNDAY with CM for July 17, 2011.

A Best Ever Story on CM: All of the columns and poems and photos were wonderful yesterday, but the story sent by Jim about the Weed Civil War reunion is one of the best ever on ColumbiaMagazine.com.

Photos fewer, but maybe more better And there are some extraordinary old photos by Larry Smith for SUNDAY with CM, July 17, 2011.

Also, about this Larry Smith: We may not be able to print every single fan letter we receive about his recent round of photographs, for two reasons: 1) It may be an overwhelming job, and 2) We don't want it on our conscience that we might be guilty of giving him the Big Head. We don't want anyone to say we changed this shy rising star from Summersville, KY at all. Larry Smith will be on The WAVE, 92.7 FM this morning. (270) 384-7979. This afternoon, the other Larry Smith, his clone (we think), will be on The Big Dawg, FM 99.9 FM (public phone not known here at CM). But, we may continue the Louie-Louie Larry Smith photo-thon for a few more pictures before resuming normal postings. (Update: 8:01amCT: From Larry Smith's Biggest fan: "The number at the Big Dawg is 789-0099."

One very huge disappointment yesterday We didn't have a Carol Perkins column! A biggy. We've launched an internal investigation to see whether we lost it, or whether highly noticeable absence was due to Carol's mind being scattered, or whether she has just been too busy with her t-shirt business, Uptown Designs, to remember her vast, loyal readership. We'll get to the bottom of this, soon

A More Likable CM: And yesterday saw the introduction to A More Likeable CM, with Facebook Like buttons, Twitter buttons, and Google + buttons. Several had asked for those.

Also: Please hold your horses on the Sunday night singing at Tabor Community Church. Patricia Hadley is responsible for sending this. Blame her, not us, if you don't know the group which will be singing at the church which perhaps started this wonderful Adair County tradition.

Here are Quick Links to selected favorite columns, stories with perhaps some links to albums, and to news from the past week and beyond. SUNDAY with CM - JULY 17, 2011 for July 17, 2011 and your favorite writers + important news stories:
