Whitehurst Diaries: Queen Anne's Lace

2011-07-14 - Old Gradyville RD, Gradyville, KY - Photo by Sharon Whitehurst.
I wandered around the farm this morning, always looking for something beautiful or quirky. Queen Anne's lace has leaped to waist height [my waist, that is] since the hay-making last month. There is a gentle slope behind the tobacco barn and when I looked back it seemed awash in frothy white. Going down on one knee with the camera gave me a photo which makes me wish I could paint. - Sharon Whitehurst

Secret tip on location of Columbia's mystery Vanished Silent City

Comments re article 45520 JIM: The mystery of Columbia's Vanished Silent City

CM Clandestine Source Secret Code No. HC 3 writesI use to do a lot of genealogy and I believe if someone went to the 1930 and 1920 federal census (on Ancestry.com) they could get the address of this Mr. Frank Hill whose residence was in the paper on January 31, 1922 as being situated on the site of the first cemetery. With that information one could ascertain the whereabouts of the cemetery possibly. unsigned/CM Clandestine Source Secret Code No. HC 3 Our thanks to Clandestine Source No. HC 3 for this information. It may be enough to crack the case. -EW

CYRUS: Correct name is Stults, not Stotts, in ancient writing

Cyrus writes:
Mea culpa.Ms. Kolbenschlag quite correctly states "Instead of 'Stotts' that should be 'Stults'" in referring to the transcription of Judge Baker's account of the July 3rd, 1863 skirmish. The transcription was done from a microfilmed copy of the News. As fate would have it, the word Stults was blurred just enough to look at first glance considerably like the more frequently encountered Stotts surname. As I said, mea culpa.Cyrus --Cyrus
