Governor says revenue increases are clear sign of recovery From Gov. Steve Beshear's Communications Office FRANKFORT, KY -"While the economic picture remains challenging for our families and our businesses, we are continuing to see clear signs of economic recovery. This kind of growth in business taxes means firms are returning to profitability - and hopefully more of them will soon begin reinvesting in new jobs. This revenue report offers additional hope that the revenue outlook for next fiscal year may improve beyond budgeted levels as well. "No matter what the revenue reports may say, though, I remain committed to steady and measured budgeting that maintains critical services for our citizens. I have rebalanced the budget nine times, cutting more than $1 billion while protecting our highest priorities - education, public safety and job creation. While I am pleased with the revenue report, we still have work to do to help our families weather the lingering effects of the economic downturn. Attracting and maintaining jobs remains my top priority." 2011-07-12 13:16:49 | Comments | Printable version

5Ws Checklist: Who? What? Where? Why? When? Everyone saves time if the 30 second checklist to see if the announcement answers the Five Ws questions before clicking "SEND."And remember, for CM, Events aren't posted without Street & Street Number for venues Save time: suggestion for posts of events, classified ads, and news items? Got an email recently with a note, "Please add telephone number to my ad." Fortunately, it had the Classified Ad ID, which lets us go to the ad in seconds. Unfortunately, for the second time, the telephone number was not included. Unfortunately, for the second time, there was no email address to contact the advertiser. It Saves Time for You, too, to run the checklist: Remember the checklist before clicking "Send," and see if the 5Ws - Who? What? Why? Where? When? -questions are answered. And remember, CM's main raison d'etre is to help people Save Time, and have more time to enjoy this wonderful community. That's why Events always have times, days of week, dates, and location with Street Number and Addresses. To save everyone time. -EW When you waste a person's time, you've stolen her/his most valuable asset. to paraphrase a favorite Pete Walker saying. 2011-07-12 08:32:25 | Comments | Printable version

Mind is boggled by attitudes of home owners toward trees Billy Joe Fudge writes: It continues to boggle my mind that folks will spend thousands of dollars annually to maintain a lawn that they can replace in two weeks for a couple hundred bucks but will not spend a couple hundred bucks every year or two to correctly prune, crown thin and maintain trees in their home landscapes that take decades and thousands of dollars to replace. - Billy Joe FudgeComments re article 45489 Trees should look like trees not bushes 2011-07-12 05:32:59 | Comments | Printable version Birthdays and Anniversaries for July 12 Happy Anniversary, Allen and Nelda Taylor (1959) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Anniversary, Brett and Jennifer Blair | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Anniversary, Jack and Margie Collins (1958-2018) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Anniversary, Jimmy and Cathy Luttrell (1985) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Anniversary, Larry and Rita Smith | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Anniversary, Lindsay Carole Harper Bragg and Andrew Jordan Bragg (2008) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Anniversary, Michael and Andrea Keith | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Anniversary, Minor and Judy England (1963) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Aaron Melson (1994) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Barney Burns | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Bella Tarter | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Bradley Stephens | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Bryce Lynn (1999) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Chrissie Posey | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, DA Hensley | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Evan Shirley (1996) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Heather Bryant | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Jake Willis (1924) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, James McClister | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Jeremy Giles | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Katie Bloyd (2005) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy birthday, Lesley Brooke Ferguson | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Mark Allen Fudge (1971) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Richie Coomer | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Ross Grant (1976) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Scott Tarter | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Stephanie Devoe | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Gordon L.
