Billy Joe Fudge identifies object as Oak Gall Billy Joe Fudge writes: The photo is a little fuzzy but I believe the object on the left is an oak gall. Oak galls are usually formed by some sort of insect depositing eggs on a leaf, leaf petiole, or twig. They then cover the eggs with bodily fluids forming a protective cover around the eggs thus in some cases forming somewhat round balls. The object on the right is a nickel, I believe.
