Super Hen in Gradyville lays gigantic egg

2011-05-26 - Gradyville, KY - Photo by Betsy Fausnaugh.
The Great Gradyville Egg! Don't know if any of these giant thunderstorms have anything to do with it, but one of my chickens laid a gigantic egg today. The smaller egg in the picture is a normal large egg! Don't know which of my hens laid the big one, but will be watching for a hen which is walking funny! -Betsy Fausnaugh

Billy Joe Fudge identifies object as Oak Gall

Billy Joe Fudge writes:
The photo is a little fuzzy but I believe the object on the left is an oak gall. Oak galls are usually formed by some sort of insect depositing eggs on a leaf, leaf petiole, or twig. They then cover the eggs with bodily fluids forming a protective cover around the eggs thus in some cases forming somewhat round balls. The object on the right is a nickel, I believe. Sorry I just could not resist. -Billy Joe Fudge
