Jamestown: 28 miles thisaway - and 28 miles thataway "Jim" writes Ed,the mention of Jamestown, Tenn., brought to mind some of the tales my father used to tell about his days (circa 1940) pf driving a cattle truck for Marvin "Red" Irvin, a Russell Springs penhooker, my favorite being the one about the law abiding bovine. It also brought to mind two traffic signs which for a number of years graced the same post on the Taft Highway (KY 35 to the younger folks; US 127 to the really young folks) near Albany, Ky. One can only imagine the panic of directionally challenged drivers upon seeing a sign (with arrow pointing north) "Jamestown 28 miles" and immediately below it, another sign (with arrow pointing south) "Jamestown 28 miles." -"Jim"Comment above re: Travel: Columbians find Rugby, TN tie to Adair Co., KY 2011-04-10 14:18:38 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

Remembering Ralph McQueary: He was a great teacher Jennifer Coffey Appleby writes: Mr. McQueary was a great teacher. I had Drivers Ed under Mr. McQueary and he taught me a lot. As teenagers, getting their license, most are ready to get out on the road as soon as possible. I was proud to be in his class and learn so much from him. I had just gotten my permit in June and had open heart surgery in July before I started my Drivers Ed class in August therefore I had not gotten to drive very much. I feel his class has helped me to be the driver that I am today. I have never been pulled over, gotten a ticket or been in an accident, Thank God and thank Mr. McQueary for teaching me so much! I looked up to him, he will be greatly missed. -Jennifer Coffey ApplebyComments re article 43586.
