Buell Lee, Casey Co., KY native (1917-2011)

He was a wonderful man, born in Casey Co., KY in 1917 and attended Casey County schools. When his mother died when he was nine years old, it became his responsibility to help his father raise the other children. Later, as a young man, he moved to Indiana to find work and also found the love of his life, Beatrice Emerson Lee. The marriage endured 64 years until her death in 2004. He was a successful contractor in Franklin, IN. He was a man of boundless energy. He loved to make things grow, and always planted far more than his family would ever need, so he would have plenty to share with anyone in need. He loved the Lord and read the Bible daily. He loved people and with his engaging smile he never met a stranger. He will be returned to his final earthly resting place in his beloved Liberty, Casey Co, KY.

Buell Lee passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at the age of 93. He was a longtime Franklin, IN, resident and had been a patient at Homeview Health and Rehabilitation Center in Franklin for the past four months.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11amET/10amCT, Saturday, March 26, 2011, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville ST, Liberty, Ky. Visitation will be from 4pm-8pmET/3pm-7pmCT, Friday at the funeral home, and also prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be in Whited Cemetery in Liberty, KY. Wanda Carter, his niece, will preside at the funeral.

Any more birthdays for March 24, 2011?

If there are any more birthdays, anniversaries, or In Memory Birthdays for March 24, 2011, we hope you'll send them now, even though, when we checked at 6:11pmCT, it was a bit neat that on the 24th, there are 24 entries. Still, we want to make sure everyone who needs to be listed, is listed. Here are three steps to take to send them:
  • Check the Two Month Celebrations listing. If the birthday is already listed, there's no need to send unless corrections or updates are needed. Once a birthday is in the calendar, it is scheduled to repeat each year until we are notified otherwise.
  • Make up a list - in the all text format seen on the Celebrations Calendar - for your family for the two months currently online. Send them at one time. Maybe there could be a dedicated family member, community store person, church or other organizational secretary designated to see that the birthdays are submitted.
  • E-mail the list using any Contact/Submit button
We welcome submissions from Adair, Casey, Cumberland, Green, Metcalfe, Russell and Taylor Counties.

Statement from Camp Casey: Incredibly fortunate to have LWC

Camp Casey Kids love the time 'big kids' from college spend with them
Comments re photo 39666 Bicycle bunny hop delights Camp Casey kids

By Dana Harmon, Camp Casey director
Col. Wm. Casey School, 222 Gen. John Adair DR., Columbia, KY

Our Camp Casey participants have been fortunate enough this year to benefit from the time and talents of all Lindsey Wilson College Athletics in addition to the ever present LWC Bonner Leaders. The cycling team was an especially entertaining group of individuals this week.

Each Monday this year Abe Cross has helped to schedule a team of athletes to come to Camp Casey and teach them skills of their sports and to demonstrate their talents.

The kids are always impressed and love the time these "big kids" spend with them.

We are incredibly fortunate to have LWC in our community and as a partner in providing quality after school programs and activities in CWC's Camp Casey.

We owe many thanks to all the folks at Lindsey Wilson College who help provide our students with quality after school!

Putting the A-Team victory into perspective: Simply amazing

There were over 160 teams competing in the State Finals alone. Except for Russell Independent, Adair County was significantly the smallest school out of those in the Top 5 in terms of total points. Luke Maupin was No. 1 in Social Studies, competing against 1,000 of the state's brightest.

Special ColumbiaMagazine.com comment

To answer the question on Columbia Magazine about the scope of the accomplishment at State, over 160 was the number of teams represented by individuals or competing teams just at State Finals alone.

That's not taking into consideration the teams eliminated at Regional level and District level.
