Best minds need to work on Theatre Row idea

Writer wants to see COLUMBIAN sign in full glory

Ann Curtis writes:
And now a show of hands, please, for how many would like to see the "COLUMBIAN" theatre neon marquee once again in full view from the Square?

Removing the small white sign which blocks the vintage marquee would provide visibilty of the "COLUMBIAN," both in the daytime and most vividly at night, when it could be lighted.

The white sign's purpose, of course, is to announce events happening at the theatre, and that's essential. But perhaps another spot could be found for it that would work just as well.

Let's put our best minds to work on this! - Ann Curtis

Mildred Colvin art at library: She was one of the greats

About:Photo of Historian Mike Watson/Mildred Colvin art

Dale Curry writes:
Good afternoon Ed,

Still look at this web site almost every day. Been gone from Columbia quite a while but still enjoy reading the info. I noticed the picture of Mike Watson under the watercolor by Mildred Colvin. Don't know if you ever met Mildred, but she was an amazing artist. We have a few of her prints and an original she did of our daughter Rebecca (it's worth at least a million dollars, I'm sure). I was fortunate to be her pastor for quite a while and continue to be the pastor to her son, Randy, who is a super musician. He is the leader of One Shot Johnny, a blues band. Enough rambling. I enjoy your site and especially your writings. Hope you can do this for a long, long time. -Dale
Thanks. Couldn't agree more on Mildred Colvin's art, and the information about your own million dollar painting. And, in times like these, I will say we can't have enough great three piece blues bands. You must feel quite honored to have such a distinguished guitarist in you congregation. Thanks, too, for the encouragement to stay around a long, long time. At this point, however, I have no plans to continue in my position at CM beyond another 29 years and 2 days. But thanks for the thought. -EW

Doug Beard endorses Jim proposal for Theatre Row

Doug Beard writes:
I like Jim's idea regarding "Theatre Row." It would tie in nicely to my previous suggestion for the Columbian Theatre. If this designation was established, a small plaque could be placed at each location with a brief historical description.

Does anyone have old photos of any of these properties that could be submitted to accompany this project? Regards, -Doug Beard
