Admirer says Dr. Janice Coffey is compassionate and affordable Diana Long writes: I have to agree with Dianne on this one. Dr. Janice Coffey is the best in the area. She is very compassionate and takes the time to treat your pet the way you want them treated. Her services are very affordable; she is there to treat your pet and not soak up the dollars. At most places vet care is outrageous, but not with Dr. Coffey. She doesn't waste your time or money with unnecessary tests or treatment. You can call her at any time, while she is treating your pet and she always takes the time to talk to you. I recently had to have my dog of 12 years put to sleep due to lung cancer. Dr. Coffey was very compassionate and helpful through this heartwrenching ordeal. I highly recommend Janice Coffey for all your animal care. Motorist has suggestions for bikers Comments re article 42774. Commentary: A concern for cycling in Adair CountyJanet Hutcheson writes: I have every respect for the LWC cyclists being on our roadways and agree that people should give them room. My issue comes in with the lay of the land our roads are on. Many times I have driven unsuspecting over a hill to find one or several bike riders right in front of me and had to slam on the brakes. I fully understand that during the races they can't use marker poles but for everyday they should be required to have an orange flag to let motorists know they are getting close to the bikers. I also think it would be smart for them to wear an orange or neon vest like our woodsmen do. I have seen a lot of bike riders in very dull colored clothing on dreary days and they almost disappear. The last thing I would want is to hit one of them so these steps for safety are for my protection as much as theirs. I also urge people to slow down and share the road when they do see the bike riders! -Janet HutchesonThanks for your comment. The answer, I would think, would be lower speed limits on the roads. Bikers on the downside of a hill are usually going faster than 15-20 miles per hour, faster than most farm vehicles. Being prepared for that eventuality should be the motorist's responsibility in all cases, I would think. I don't see any way to transfer responsibility for the bikers', hikers', and farmers safety from the motorists. Speed and not maintaining intervals are failings of motorists, not cyclists. -EW 2011-03-02 16:21:18 | Comments | Printable version

Problem with Internet Mapping to Schools creates scary situation Sena Schaeffer writes, again, of need for signage at Dillon and Greensburg Streets to route traffic to Adair County School District Campus. This morning, Mayor Mark D. Harris, reached at his office, said that he would see that proper signage is installed, and checked. Ways to correct problems with Google, Mapquest, Yahoo, TomTom and Garmin mapping are being considered by Judge Melton, Mayor Harris, and Adair County 911 Address Coordinator and others. Just three - of numerous - examples of problems on Google: 1) 500 Public Square, Columbia, KY, gets a pin drop at 500 W Columbia ST, Somerset, KY. 2) 116 Jamestown ST gets pin drop on Russell RD. and 930 Jamestown ST, Joyce's Hallmark, gets a pin drop in the middle of of the overpass at Exit 49 of the Louie B. Nunn Bypass. While the problems with the internet mapping in no way diminish the need to have all venues in the county marked with proper street numbers, errors are a problem for visitors and impede development of the local economy. Better signage is an immediate answer. Particularly to the public school campus, to Lindsey Wilson, to the Lindsey Wilson Sports Park, and to Westlake Regional Hospital. -EW Guest commentary by Sena Schaeffer A few months back, I wrote about the problems with people from out of town being directed through Rolling Hills from map sources on the Internet. A few minutes ago, I witnessed a situation that was rather scary. I was playing with my grandkids in the front yard and saw a semi with a trailer, that was at least 18 feet long (or longer), turning from Dillon Street onto Clinton Street. I watched as the driver had great difficulty turning into Clinton Street. Link works today, March 2, 2011, but may not in the future One idea which is sort of there in the article, but not quite - and should be - would be subsidies for gardens for lunchrooms at public schools, greater subsidies for roadside produce marketers, and subsidies for families to have backyard chickens and who grow their own vegetables with maybe a few to sell. -CM 2011-03-02 09:34:09 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback
