Matt Jackson of Columbia, KY on life-saving team

By Sue Stivers

Following is an e-mail that I received Monday, January 31, 2011, from Dr. Andrew Westmoreland, President of Samford University, Birmingham, AL:
Our Story

From a Birmingham-area resident (sorry, but I have not sought permission to use her name), reporting on a recent encounter with McWhorter School of Pharmacy students and faculty at Shelby Baptist Medical Center:
"When they were getting my husband ready for surgery in ICU, he flat lined and they called a code blue. The emergency team that responds to this code includes a pharmacist. That morning the pharmacist had two Samford University interns with him who followed him when he responded to the call. Those two young men did CPR on my husband and saved his life."
Dr. Charlie Sands, McWhorter dean, has identified the members of the life-saving Samford team as Dr. Bob Henderson, two P4 students (Joe Glovacz and Matt Jackson) and a P2 student (Katie Carrier).

The world is better because the McWhorter School of Phamacy prepares pharmacists who transform. Dr. Andrew Westmoreland.
Matt Jackson is the son of Ralph and Linda B. Jackson, of Columbia, KY, and a graduate of Adair County High School who completed pre-pharmacy work at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, KY. -Sue Stivers, Executive Director, C-AC Chamber of Commerce.

Local history: How Esto, Russell Co., KY got its name

The Post Office was wanting a short name. And found it within the full name of a young Afro-American who lived nearby the postal facility.
Travel directions from Columbia with MAP link, follows story.

"Jim"

How Esto got its name

In the March 18, 1943 edition of the Russell County News, the Esto community correspondent gave a brief but informative outline of how Esto, the southeastern most corner of the Sacred Triangle, got its name. As a means of introduction, the Estonian wrote that:

Esto is located in a little valley on the east side of the west tributary of Greasy Creek, four miles west of Jamestown on the Jamestown and Columbia star mail route. The post office was established in 1876. Perhaps the first postmaster was Judge S. Collins but was soon succeeded by Daniel Boone Barger. They were two splendid pioneer citizens. (Judge S. Collins most likely refers to Stanton P. Collins.)

Remembering Sharilyn Page: Above all, a strong person

Ginger Lowery writes:
I first just want to thank those who posted a few memories of my mother, Sharilyn Page. Mom will greatly be missed by anyone who ever met her. She was amazing and I am so grateful to have had her in my life for the years I did. The wonderful thing about her was that no matter if you spent years or hours with her, she remained in your memory. She liked to laugh, smile, and live for the moment. At times like these, we are reminded why that is an attribute we all should have. Above all, she was a strong person. She stood up for what she believed in, fought for her children, and never never gave up! Thank you everyone who attended her services and shared your lives with her. Ginger Lowery
