CEO Rusty Tungate, 8 others of top WRH management resign

Board learned of apparently coordinated resignations in letters opened at around 8:30amCT, Monday morning, January 31, 2011. Interim CEO will be on site Tuesday, February 1, 2011. Employees get reassurance from Board Chairman Jim Evans that jobs will continue. "Employees have nothing to fear," he said. Evans said that community can expect to see continued high quality services. By Ed Waggener

Westlake Regional Hospital CEO Rusty Tungate and eight of the hospital's top management team have resigned. Board Chairman Jim Evans, who is currently in charge, said that it was because of a disagreement with the board. "We wanted to run one hospital, Westlake Regional Hospital," Chairman Evans said. "He (Tungate) wanted to run three."

Evans said that he wishes to reassure the community and the workers at the hospital that the hospital will continue to operate. "Workers have nothing to fear," he said. "Jobs will continue as they were. "The community can be assured, too, that operations will continue without interruption and that services will continue."

Word of the resignations came in the form of letters this morning, Chairman Evans said. Those resigning include, besides CEO Tungate:
  • Cindy Meyer, Assistant CEO
  • Kim Brian, in charge of Accounts Receivable
  • Ottie Shaw, a sister of Rusty Tungate and Administrative Director of Physical Therapy
  • Betsy Dudgeon, a sister of Rusty Tungate, and his Executive Assistant

  • Jim Hagan, Director of Purchasing
  • Ralph Morgan, Chief Financial Assistant to the CEO
