Gradyville Carrots: Planted April, harvested January 29, 2011

2011-01-29 - Gradyville, KY - Photo by Sharon Whitehurst.
"These carrots were sown during April, 2010 and were just lifted from good Kentucky dirt by Jim Whitehurst," writes Sharon Whitehurst. "He also dug a hill of potatoes. It's a beautiful afternoon to sit in the sun at the west end of the house, mug of green tea in hand with the barn kittens rolling around my feet. Goldfinches are doing some very spring-like chittering at the niger feeder nearby."

Birds of Kentucky: Don't have to feed birds to count them

M.E. Lewis writes:
I want to let people know they don't have to feed birds to be a bird watcher. You don't have to have feeders out to count the birds.

Birds are everywhere. Most people don't take the time to look if they don't have feeders but birds are there.

For the bird count you need a good guide book to help you identify the bird and Day and Day has a real good guide book.

If you have really good eyes you don't even need a set binoculars. That part is up to you and you can buy them locally.

If you are going to put out feeders to draw more birds to your yard you need to put them out now. If you haven't been feeding birds it could take them a while to come to the feeders. -M.E. Lewis

Comments above re article 42087: A dismal Adair standing can be changed at virtually no costBobby D. Morrison writes:
Ed, I have signed on my drivers license to be an organ donor since it became available. However, I'm not sure that has been recorded by the circuit clerk's office. Therefore, I just went to the site and registered online.

I appreciate CM's, Dr. Aaron's, Dennis Loy's and others efforts to improve this important area. I feel that giving organs and blood to help save a life is the most important gift we can give. -Bobby D. Morrison
